    I had read on this forum that someone had found that some of the Asian type was made from zinc.

    So took the zinc back to the shop and explained the situation. He let me switch it out with some other stuff he had. the ingots are the traditional 20lbs, and took an hour or so pull out all the spacers...

    What are those long weights at the bottom? I found one in a road a few years back, just haven't gotten desperate enough to melt it yet. It's not pure because I can't scratch it with a finger nail.

    Those are bars of Linotype alloy. The eye at the end is for suspending it over the alloy reserve of the Linotype machine, to be lowered in as needed to replenish what's been cast. The open design lets the last bit fall off the hook into the tank by itself.

    Well, that's cool. Looks like it's typically 4% tin and 12% antimony. Quite a score for me since I'm getting low on WW but have pure. Thanks. Sorry if this is thread drift.
