    Critter gitter

A young Lady moved it to my house to day, and she looks ready to get some critters

"She" must be predjudiced! I don't see a single cast bullet there! Nice looking M1, all the right curves and her age isn't too bad either! Does she have a sister?

I took the Lady to the range on Dec 24th, weather was 80 deg with a light breeze, she sang beautifully

Treb, I thank you for giving me a day of vicarious shooting. You didn't even have snow!
I was waiting for a case of Garand thumb to show up. Then I saw you assisting the bolt forward after reload? What's up with that?
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!

That's the first time I've ever seen one fired, I think. In navy bootcamp in '62 we fired 03 Springfields. On the ship, we fired 1911s, BARs, and Thompsons. I suddenly want a Garand!!

    Junior,

Once you shoot one, you are spoiled towards other rifles.

Ric, unless the action is really worn, the bolt will not slam forward when you load the rifle, you have to assist the bolt on the first shot. And Jr. yes they are a lot of fun to shoot, thanks for your kind remarks

Out of 20 Garands I've owned or taken the owners to the range to shoot, I've only seen one that would close without assistance on the first round out of the clip.

I wonder if it's a case of 50-70 year old op-rod springs? With the reputation these used to have for "M1 thumb", I'd think they should be closing with a lot more authority...

Springfield is making new M-1s... I wonder what they charge for "replacement" op-rod springs...?

    Junior,
I'm sure you have all ready looked at the CMP web site but if you haven't you should. That is where I got mine, a field grade springfield. It shoots great and the prices are much less than you can get on the open market.

I am amazed at how consistently it drops the en bloc clips on the table.

Now all you have to do is soak all of the copper out of the old girl to start shooting cast!

That all of the sudden makes me want to dust off my Springfield M1, (1-43) and run a few clips through the old girl!...Even though it's barely 30 degrees here.

    Nice M1 by the way!
