    New 2 me Mod 66

    URL=http://s149.photobucket.com/albums/s52/Giandm/pistol/?action=view&current=P1030500.jpg][/URL]
I picked up a new pistol today inspired by a lot of things. It should be a great packer on the hip and in the kayak. I am guessing faster powders with a 2 1/2" bbl are going to give me a better burn and less of a fireball. I don't know if we got warmer than 5 today and forecast is lower through the weekend. I might not shoot it for a bit but am looking forward to it. I also got a set of wood grips and a desanti IWB holster so I hope i'm set. Gianni

Them short Smith .357s are very nice pistols. I love mine. 2400 won't lose as much velocity as one might think out of the short barrels. If you miss you can set your target on fire though! They do fireball nicley.

    Gianni--

Those 2.5" M-66s were THE plainclothes and off-duty armament at the time I entered cop work. All ya need now is a couple HKS speed-loaders or Bianchi Speed Strips and yer ready for what comes along.

Nice gun. Bad temperatures. Move south.

Short barrel? I looked for velocity out of my 2.25" SP101 and found Blue Dot to be the winner pushing 158 gr Gold Dots. Goes about 1150 fps. 2400 was around 1050 as was H110 and Lil'Gun. Bullseye got 1000.

Great guns, I carried a 2 1/2' Model 19 for years. Still have it.

I have owned two just like it. The first one got away from me I still own the 2nd and it will stay with me. I believe it is the best carry revolver ever made. If you are going to have a gun in your kayak I can't think of a better one for size and durability.

Greetings I have a model 19 I wacked to 3.5 inches ( no regrets) and a Model 13 3" . They both get a steady diet of Unique 6-8 grains. The 3 " Mod 13 really likes the 358432 160wc with 6 unique. That is one of my carry guns here for out of town.

For short barrelled guns those little suckers will flat shoot. I like cast wc's (358495) with around 4.5 of 231 for a knock around load.

Yea I sold my 4" mod 19 a few years back and have regretted it ever since. My hands don't consider the rb much of a detriment and the carry factor for me makes it better than a sb. Gianni

I've always liked the K frame smith for size!

Seems I've worked on and shot a bunch of them but they always seem to get traded off for some silly reason.

Never had a M19/66, seems I've never found one at a price I felt was right, every time I go in a gunshop and see one it's right next to a M-29 that's got the same price written on it!

Why buy a .357 when I can get a .44 for the same price?

Some day I'll find a Model 19 that "speaks" to me and we'll go home!

    Nice pistol by the way.

Had a blued M19 and it shot the old 200 grain .38 Special Super Police load like a house afire. Easy to duplicate with the 358430 200 grain version,/beagle

Back in my college days we had a guy from back east that was a U.S. Marshal in our dorm, we called him "Pappy". He had a customized S&W 19 with a 2 1/2" barrel as a carry gun. It sported hand made custom finger groove combat style walnut grips, a trigger job that was smooth as silk and a gold plated hammer and trigger. That gun fit my hand perfectly! I always said I would own one someday, but I never have, so maybe it is time to look into it? Good luck with yours, you have chosen wisely!

I wish I could find a 2.5 md 66.I have got a 2.5 md 19 and have had it for years. It is my favorite pistol,it is so easy to slip in my hip pocket and carry around the farm.It seems like ever time I have needed a pistol it was aways there.I load it with a stiff load of green dot and 158 gr. tl lub.for 1200 fps.Works well.

For those who might be interested, I have a 2.5 inch Barrel only with ejector rod for a 66 Smith. Easy way to make a 6 inch a snubby!

PM if interested, just sitting on my desk so make an offer.
