    My new TVM flintlock

Hopefully you will see my Basic Poor Boy iron furniture, AA wood, swamped .40 Cal barrel 40+" long, large Siler lock.

It said the pics uploaded, and the last one is me at 6'2" with the rifle. Sorry about the pics, I worked today, it came just a few minutes before I arrived, and it's dark outside.

Sure a nice looking rifle, Wayne. Beautifully figured stock. Hope you won't leave it hanging there over the fireplace when it's in use-- long exposure to the heat will case the stock to check and crack. What are the revolvers you have displayed over the fireplace?

Middle one is a relatively worthless copy of a supposedly Colt Navy Sherriffs but in .44, On the right is the Piettia LeMat, on the left is a Rogers and Spencer copy.

To clean it TVM says to coat the stock with Minwax, clean the barrel, pull the lock and clean it inside and out and replace, then buff the wax and coat the whole thing in Type F ATF! First time I've heard using ATF over wax.

    Glad you found a toy!
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!

That's a new one on me also......you'd think that the ATF would dissolve the wax. I like wax for preservation though, and have used Trewax for many years to preserve some of my guns, both wood and metal. Like you said, buff it after it dries, and it makes a moisture resistant surface.

Ric, it's a toy that fits me - 14 3/4" LOP. I wish Chris (Arisaka99) weren't up in Charlottesville - this would be the closest to a real fitting gun he's ever shot! Once I get it shooting I might convince LOML to take a road trip.

Oh, and Mr. German hunter, that fireplace gets used maybe six or eight times a year and yes, it will be dismounted.

I built a steel Tennessee rifle with a Douglas barrel & Siler lock many years ago.
The Siler should serve you well.
What kind of touch hole (liner) do you have?
that is a fine stock you have there.

I like the idea that its stock butt crescent isn't overly hooked. Your rifle must be a dandy to shoulder & shoot. Thanks for sharing.

Kens, I know it's lined - the touch hole has a screwdriver line through it. As to who made it, I'd have to ask TVM and they are closed for the weekend.

Very nice indeed. Congratulations on a nice rifle. Please let us know how it shoots. A friend of mine built a TVM .32 flintlock years ago with a Siler lock too. Its got a 42" barrel and nice maple stock. I wish I had a pic.

Well, I found one thing and realized another. It has a 43" barrel and a 42 1/2" ram rod. Drops completel in the barrel without a load. The thing I realized is most of my accouterments for my .50 won't work in the .40! As soon as I figure out the thread size (TOW has two for the .40) I'll make an order - add a jag to the ramrod and it'll work. And make a couple more.

    Gonna rain Sat anyway!
