I am mainly asking about the ruger but also the rem mag and rigby, are they all the same? I looked in accurate but none of the 40-41 labeled molds actually said designed for the 416 so and so.

The nominal bore diameter of US .416 barrels is .408, groove is +.008

Diameters can be "poetic", for certain. I buy the firearm FIRST, then do "Tale of the Tape" on critical dimensions, then buy die set and mould(s).

I know about slugging and chamber casting, is that what you mean "tale of the tape".........measure?

Travis, I think where the confusion is coming from is the use of BORE to actually mean GROOVE diameter. Bore diameter is the measurement of the hole at the tops of the lands, groove diameter is to the bottom of the grooves, Fred is making the same mistake. Since we as reloaders of cast need the info of both diameters, especially if ordering a bore rider mold, it is best to use the correct terms. If you are using newly manufactured barrels from a reputable manufacturer the groove will be within a couple ten thousands of an inch of stated bore and groove diameters( Remington hammered barrels being the exception I've found twice).

416Rigby1.26026.186.408.41616.5
.416Rem.Mag./Weath.Mag.1.2626.186.408.41614.0
This is from Lothar Walther site, Blank diameter 1.26",length 26.186", bore diameter .408", groove diameter .416", and as you can see they recommend 1:16.5" twist for Rigby and 1:14 for Rem and Weatherby mags.

http://www.accuratemolds.com/bullet_...=42-400R-D.png Look here he has several of them that will work for the .416's, be it Rigby, Remington, Weatherby, Ruger or Taylor. Since you don't own the rifle you can look at his 42 caliber molds at his site.

Well you have to have the rifle to do that, he was looking for molds from Accurate so needed to find molds that cast large enough for standard groove diameter of cartridges he asked about. Listed as 42 caliber on that site.

yes, when I said bore I meant groove, kinda like when I say floor I mean wall. hehehe, swheeler, that's a kind offer, and pretty tempting, but with the amount of powder those use, it would put me in the poor house!, I've got my heart set on the 9.3X62, well see if that is big enough for me, and the hogs and deer! thanks!-Travis P.S. how you doing 9.3Al?

Not too bad, sir. SWMBO is going back to Spain in a couple weeks, and with the cooler weather I'm getting caught up on long-delayed reloading projects. Might even get the furnace warmed up soon, and cast with a few new moulds--one of those in 9.3mm.

ok, I've seen that used before, what does "SWMBO" stand for? I know I'm gonna slap my forehead and say duh! but had to ask! oh, what new mold did'ja get?
