I was at the gun club up the road from my father in laws house shooting 5 stand. In the lodge was a Browning Citori sitting on the counter in pieces....and I do mean pieces.
Strange thing about this is the gun blew at the receiver, sending sharp shrapnel everywhere. The fore end broke to pieces. The stock cracked all the way through. I've seen my fair share of blown up shotguns, but never at the receiver. That's extremely rare.
The rib is peeled back and there is no way you can straighten it by hand.
Take a look at the window frame where pieces of the receiver hit. There is no doubt in my mind that had this hit the face or chest, it would have been fatal. The guy was not injured.
He was shooting reloads (old Remington Peters hulls). This was NOT a squib or stuck wad as the barrel is not split. It's possible that a wad may have got stuck in the forcing cone, but I doubt it.
Anyway, it's a miracle the guy is fine.
