Anybody ever heard of a sugar cookie called "Tea Cakes"? My Mother made them and my wife makes them around Christmas. Best cookie this side of Heaven.
Merry CHRISTmas!

Oh yea ,you bet.Grandma would bake those and dig the roots of sassafras trees to boil to make a sweet tea. Man I wish I could go back about 50 years.
If they're almost spheres dusted with powdered sugar and like shortbread, but better yet; yes and they are good.
A friend of my parents used to bake them a gift tin full every Christmas, and I looked forward to snagging a share when I went home for Christmas.
You got the best cookies this side of heaven and you not going to share the recipe...I would like to bake up a batch.
See if the wife will share .

Not one of my favorite cookies but okay. Not hard to make but my sister has my cookbook right now to copy some of the family recipes...
A Buttered Toasted Tea Cake and a Cup of Tea is a regular break whilst tramping around Shopping.I steer clear of the shopping but the wife is an expert at retail therapy.
Will get the directions from the Wife and post them later today.
Here ye are. I assume no responsibility for belly aches due to over eating these cookies. Eat at your own risk!
The note about LIGHTLY BROWNED is to be taken seriously. Just a tinge of brown around the edges means get em out of the oven NOW!
Mama’s Tea Cakes
1 3/4 cup sugar
2 sticks butter, softened
2 eggs
3/4 cup oil
4 cups plain flour
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon Cream of Tartar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
IN LARGE MIXING BOWL, COMBINE SUGAR, MARGARINE, EGGS AND OIL; CREAM TOGETHER WELL. ADD ALL REMAINING INGREDIENTS, MIXING WELL. THE DOUGH WILL BE STIFF. DROP DOUGH BY WALNUT-SIZED AMOUNTS ONTO UNGREASED COOKIE SHEETS. PRESS EACH COOKIE DOWN WITH A FORK DIPPED IN WATER. BAKE AT 350 DEGREES 8-10 MINUTES, UNTIL LIGHTLY BROWNED. LET COOL ON COOKIE SHEETS 1-2 MINUTES, THEN REMOVE AND LET COOL.
MAKES ABOUT 4 DOZEN.
