Also went to the scrap yard--isotope cores

Didn't come away with alot. 109 lbs of isotope cores. All I have bought are 31lbs each, but these look just like the bigger ones, but only weigh 22 ish. lbs. Same alloy as the larger cores? Never seen isotope cores at the yard before.

They must have had 2 tons of sheet lead , along with a couple of 55gal drums of lead and a couple of buckets with WW's in them.

They had some items that at first glance, might be older isotope cores. Might have 8 or so. Pretty old as the outside was fairly dark, and were shaped more like an old pineapple grenade, but smooth on the outside. Took a pic, but haven't yet figured out how to get it from my phone to the computer!!! Any idea of what they might be, and the alloy composition?

At least they have dropped lead prices down to 75cents/lb.

Here is info on all the different isotope lead containers: http://fellingfamily.net/isolead/

I'm surprised you found some. They are reusing the containers and not recycling them anymore.

Those I bought today look like the core, but 5 only weighed 109 lbs and have a ring around the midpoint that is maybe 1/2" tall.

well if you look at the alloy's they use you pretty much have lead, 1/3/96, or 2.5/2.5/95
so even if you mix everything together and have 1/3, 1/4, 1/5 of one type one way or the other, or whatever, you still got some good alloy right off to work with.

If you add your email address into your contact list, you can email the pic from your phone to your home computer. Thats how I do it.

I wish I could do that! It's a bit of a hike out there from Michigan, but maybe one day!
