Looking for a load. I had an oops

Made it home today just in time for the mail guy to get here. A new 454 die set along with a box of cast performance 300 gr wfngc. After opening the box I discovered I had selected the wrong slug. I have the 265 gr wfngc. I am having issues finding reliable load sources for hunting loads. Best I have found was trail boss at 900 fps. Anybody have any ideas on loads or where to look. Sorry for the long post.

^^^This is for a 270gr. I would back down 10-12% as a starting load..You are right Hodgdons Data ONLY list Trail Boss..Bill.

Yeah it's kind of odd that even the Lyman cast handbook doesn't list this boolit. Yet it has a 255 gr load.

Did find a max load of 31.8 gr h110 behind this boolit. Anyone confirm this from published data?

You know this goes back to what I said in a previous thread. S. T. U. D. Y....
On Hodgdons site it list a 300gr jacketed and a 260gr jacketed.
    30 gr H110 with the 300gr and 36gr H110 with the 260.
Now through the use of ones thinking I would know that starting between the two charge weights would be more than safe and then work up from there.
On the average if a cast and jacketed seat similar in depth in the case than the cast most of the time, although not 100 percent of the time, sets up less resistance to the entrance into the bore upon firing hence less chamber pressure, although not 100 percent of the time.
Now armed with that info I say start loading and watch what you are doing and proceed with caution.

Fyi, the CP 265 did not fit in my FA. Might check before you load too many.

I will definitely check that first shell out. Thanks for the information.

I know the Swift is a jacketed bullet, but hopefully it will give you a rough idea of where to start.

Thanks for all the help. Little load work ran 32-34 grains h110. All were good 32 was about the right spot. Now for accuracy checking.

    Groo here
Is this a Ruger, Taurus, or FA 454? [Fa 454 is tuffest]
Use the loading data for the 260gr jacketed bullets and you should be fine.
