I'm considering building a 5.7 bolt action rifle, probably on a Remington 700 frame.
I think it'd be a great cartridge for shooting suppressed.
Can anyone think of a reason not to?

I can. That cartridge is so small it is going to have a tough time making it into the chamber every time and can drop down into the area behind the barrel where the locking lugs engage, jamming up the works. A 223 will do anything the 5.7 will but give you way more flexibility in loading and work better through a Rem action. If you had to do a 5.7 bolt gun, I'd start with a CZ 527 in 22 Hornet. But without modifying it, you'd still have a more useful rifle. Just my 2 cents...

Pacific Tool & gauge has Rem 700 bolts and M Seven bolts with the 5.7 x 28 bolt face.

I like nobade's point. No mag cap advantage, meanwhile 223 is cheap on brass, easy to load, can download as low as you want, uses the same bullets and primers.
I agree with the 223 option. Its also a lot safer to load.
You could do it in a Spanish Destroyer action.
We need somebody/something to keep the government (cops and bureaucrats too) HONEST (by non government oversight).
Every "freedom" (latitude) given to government is a loophole in the rule of law. Every loophole in the rule of law is another hole in our freedom. When they even obey the law that is. Too often government seems to feel itself above the law.
We forgot to take out the trash in 2012, but 2016 was a charm! YESSS!
Ever think about 22TCM?
What about a T/C Contender rifle in 5.7?

"There is not a single instance in history in which civil liberty was lost, and religious liberty preserved entire. If therefore we yield up our temporal property, we at the same time deliver the conscience into bondage." --John Witherspoon, The Dominion of Providence Over the Passions of Men. 1776
"The words of the Lord are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times." Psalm 12:6 (E.S.V.)
Then make your own brass from .223 brass.
Personally, I would just go with a .223 in a rifle since the brass is so easy to find and you can put pretty much as light of a load in it as you want.
Personally, I like the .22TCM over the 5.7 in a handgun -- especially since the .22TCM is in a 1911.
This case does NOT take kindly to hi pressure etc.
I have 3 different wildcats 17/20/22 calibers on this case,
along with a custom reamer, being used in TC's and rifles.

Yes Sir have a look at the 22TCM,now available in a 1911 9mm package, with several grades, which have both caliber set ups, Rock Inland also has it in a model 77 bolt action rifle.
I just picked up a 22Hornet barrel for my contender myself, but I plan to get the 22TCM in the near future.
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left.

Hotguns if you're looking for a re-loadable .22lr alternative you might find this interesting: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/show...ullshop-22-CCM
I know lots of people who really like the idea of the .22TCM. And really, who doesn't love the idea of a reloadable .22 especially this long into the shortage? But the TCM bottleneck seems an inelegant solution to me. I much prefer the idea of the .22 CCM for a dedicated .22lr or wmr substitute.
Been reading this with interest. I have an old M-580 Rem. single shot that I've long wanted to customize and haven't settled on anything yet. I want a small ctg. and have thought about the .22 Squirrel, a shortened .22 Hornet. An .820" dia. bbl. from Green Mtn. should do anything I'd want to do with this rifle. I want a centerfire that'll approximate .22 LR and .22 WMR and maybe a mid load like the .22 WRF. I already have Lyman #225438 and 415 molds, which should do everything I have aspirations of doing. I doubt it'd ever see a j-bullet. Does anyone know the pressure level of 5.7's? I remember it's up there pretty good, but nothing I don't believe the M-580, properly fitted out, couldn't handle with its multiple lugs. I doubt I'd ever shoot it much over 20K psi. Just not much need for it here. I'd mostly just be looking for bughole type accuracy.
Anyone ever known a 5.7 to be built on a Rem. M-580 series action?
