Asking for my cousin, what is needed to change a Savage 110 in 270 Win over to a 375 H&H. I know he will need to change the bolt head. Will the standard 110 Savage small shank action even work. Will he need to alter the rails etc. for feeding etc. It is the blind mag model.
just shooting from the hip but I think the rails would be ok. You might get tight in the magazine for length. I just found something out the other day. The mag bolt head recieves and ejects a 444 marlin very nicely. That would have punch with in proper yardages. I am sure it could be made to work in a mag box some how. They are only about 9 bucks, so you can play around and not spend to much money to get a cartridge to feed.

that is also my first question because the .375 H&H Mag. is longer than a standard action, for Dia. I know a belted mag. round can be put in a 110 action but the length would be my question.
Savage does build a rifle in .375 Ruger the pressure is higher but it is the length is the same as the .270 Win.

From what I can find out, there is only .03 difference in over all length from the longest 30-06 OAL to the .375 H&H loads.
my check shows the 30-06 to be COL 3.34 inch and the .375 H&H Mag. is 3.6 inch Length keeps the .375 H&H Mag. from being put in a lot of rifles. Some use the .375 Gibbs (the .338 Win. Mag. case necked to .375) to deal with this issue.

Did you find some one that makes a 375HH barrel for the small shank? Savage made only a few Win short mags on the small shank, then onto the large shank.

The reason they even came out with the 375 Ruger was the simple fact that you could have a comparable cartridge to the 375 H&H in a standard long action. Can one redo a Savage long action to accept a 375 H&H? Well I am sure it can be done with a good bit of work to the magazine mouth of the action and the extraction port along with some reworking of the Magazine to accept the longer cartridge but it would not be something I would spend the funds needed to accomplish such a task. Since Savage does make a rifle in 375 Ruger I would either purchase one outright and or make the changes needed to the Savage you do have to use the 375 Ruger Cartridge.
