    Zinc in the mix?

I was digging through a bucket of old ingots and came across these two ingots. If memory serves me I think I dumped these out from the ingot mold before they had fully cooled.

They have a much different texture than I'm used to. They look and feel almost like concrete instead of the smooth ingots I'm used to. I don't frost my boolits, and so I wonder if the temperature got too hot and I frosted the ingot.

Has anyone else ever experienced this? In looking at all the other ingots I have, these two are the only oddities, which makes me think I'm fine because I don't see how only two ingots could be "infected" with zinc, while everything else seems fine.

So...based solely on the pictures, do you think these might have zinc in them.

PS...unless I get a definite answer, I'll just toss them out.

Melt em again. Lead looks like that when you dump it right as it is slushy.

Test them with a little HCl. Although, I'm with you on seriously doubting there is any Zn in there.

Keep the melt at 600° and skim off what floats.
Ingots dumped too hot will do that too.
