The joys of new toys

Gettin ready to pull the trigger (pun intended) on a Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter. I would like to shoot the same load as my rifle (19.2grs 2400, 429-244 cast boolit gas checked and sized .430, OAL 1.660"). Offhand, is this loading too hot for a hand cannon? Any hints, tips, comments welcome

Off hand, no, it should work fine in your Ruger. 19 grains under a 250 grain bullet works in my M29s

I just bought a Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter with the Bisley grip.
It's perfect and super accurate.

I shoot a Missouri Bullet Co 240gr SWC with 23.0grs of H-110.
One big ragged hole at 25yrds.

The Bisley grip really soaks up the recoil and makes the Super Blackhawk Hunter
probably the best revolver ever made.

Same load I use in my super red hawk. It was a bit warm in the blackhawk and the trigger guard kept biting, so I sold it. The redhawk eats them like like a fat kit eats M&M's.

Well, I got it! Meet my new little friend. Haven't shot it yet. Considering having the cylinder throats opened to match the largest one since I want to shoot cast boolits and looking at a trigger job. This revolver has ALOT of creep to the trigger. I don't find the pull weight to be over much though I haven't had it checked. Any other ideas on tweaks? A scope is in the future as I intend to hunt with this as well as try target shooting at distance. Any scope suggestions?

My brother's is identical to yours and is an outstanding gun. Mine has the western style frame which I dislike. Your gun will easily and safely digest your 19.2 grain load.
Before S&W prevailed on SAAMI to bowdlerize the 44 Mag, we used to run our SBH"s considerably hotter, though not comfortably. My middle finger took a pounding.

When I went to pick it out, the LGS had both grip styles in the case. I wanted the Bisley as it fit my hand better. As luck would have it, they had 2 in stock so I got my pick. I was tempted to get them both, but logic and fear over rode desire.

If you are reasonably handy, Rugers are easy to work on. I put a safe, 1# 14oz trigger on my .45 Blackhawk a few weeks ago, using all factory original parts, including the full power main spring. No creep, and very consistent.

The Hunter is a tank!
If you are going to hunt, get an Ultra Dot, straight 4 minute, no fancy adjustments.

Where is the LGS in St Gen area? I'm up the road in Festus and go to OBERLE's every two or three weeks.

The big RUGERS are considered to handle any load you'd use in an 1894 MARLIN lever gun. Elmer Keith load "in the day" was 22 grains of 2400 with his 429421. INFO ONLY! 429244 is a classic boolit. There are a lot of other good designs out there.

Do a search on "marrying" the hammer and trigger. A spring kit from BROWNELLS can help a lot also. IF you get a gunsmith, emphasize that you want reliability over light trigger pull.

It is so easy to get a light pull with full power springs, I would never consider going lighter on the mainspring. If anything an extra power one to speed up lock time.

I'm not a huge fan of scope sighted revolvers, and think maybe a Red Dot setup might be better for field use, but from the bench it cut my groups in half in limited testing. But truth to tell, I have not shot this gun much since it was installed. In fact, I haven't shot anything over a 38 Special yet this year. I bought a couple of Single Sevens last year and a Colt Army Special 32-20 this year and have been casting and shooting 32's to the exclusion of just about everything. I haven't fired a 45 round in over two years Something must be done, work is killing my free time.
