    Cast in Marlin 308MX

Anybody get it to work good? Tried to load for SIL's, cases sized & trimmed to spec. empty cases fit fine. Seated a boolit sized 3105, jams. Ran through a 309 sizer = 310. Ran through a 308 sizer = 310. Darn, gotta call Lee. Neck OD is 334-337, in SAMMI spec. (taper throat 390-380), FCD. PCd 165 bore rider. Can't get any marks on the boolit from pounding a dummy into the chamber. No indication from the felt marker trick either. Case won't go far enough to let the lifter clear. I assume a really tight throat in this one. Throat is clean. Loaded FTX in this rifle fine, it actually cloverleafs 3 shots @ 100 with Hornady ammo - no throat reaming allowed. Understand Remlin is not making this anymore so I'd like to get it to work with cast. Anyone else have similar problems and know a fix? One obvious idea is neck turning or reaming, not set up for either. Sizing to 308 may allow chambering but probably not shoot worth a darn.
    Whatever!

This doesn't really answer the marlin part of your question involving throat and chamber size, but my encore .308 mx does pretty good with cast. The throat on it is fairly short that puts the gas check in the body of the case with anything bigger than the lee 170fp.

How's brass availability? I still see the ammo for it and the 338 MX on the shelf.

I never did find any brass. We finally had factory hit the shelf (once) so I bought all 6 boxes that came in. I haven't got around to playing with it though. I am thinking about just staying with the j word thing on this one.

My JM-stamped 308MX seems to like the 311041 sized to .310 and seated long so that the lands just touch the boolit. Still working up loads using BLC2 and LVR with not enough difference to make a choice of powder yet. I have 200 cases from commercial loads and 1000 Win307 of which I have reformed 200 to work with during load work up. No issues with tight chamber or short leade.

That 308ME seems like a nice one to get. It has already stuck around longer than the 307 Winchester. Maybe it'll be in production a few more years.

In production??????? I didn't realize it was still in production, the ammo is only produced on a limited basis.

Was't too many years ago I saw new rifles on the rack in 308 and 338MX. I did some serious contemplating on the 338MX before I decided against it. Shooting buddy has one of each and both are awesome shooters with factory ammo.
