A few weeks ago I felt the need for some stick-on wheel weight lead and my scrounging efforts turned up nothing. I contacted Kathie and inquired about the needed alloy and she confirmed she did indeed have it available. I promptly sent a postal money order as payment and soon the package arrived on my doorstep. I think it was 5 days from sending payment to receiving lead. The ingots were most professionally packaged and survived the trip with the package intact. After trying to develop tire dealers to scrounge from for a couple of years and it not really working very well I have decided it probably saves time and money to order from the Captain. Thank You Kathie for a very smooth and professional transaction. I'll be in touch again when the need arises.

I just received my order of 50 pounds WW lead at 2:30 pm Texas time. Shipped on Friday and received on Monday - that's quick. I was also very impressed with the super secure packaging job. Multiple layers of fiberglass reinforced packing tape around the box, with an inner box containing the sixteen ingots. The inner box surrounded by four layers of cardboard. No way those ingots could bust out and escape! I should be dropping boolits by the end of the week. Thanks.

I have heard rumors about other people's ingots busting out,,, and so far, I have been fortunate to have none escape! I hope that will always be the case!!!! I do my best to keep all in order! I thank you for the great "P.R." in regard to my packaging! Happy casting!!!! ~ K

    Stickon Lead Ingots

    Hi to all,

I am reaching out to anyone who has a need for stickon ingots. Per my comment in my number one post of this very lengthy thread:

** NOTE dated 6/16/2014: I have quite a bit of stickon ingots in stock, and will be casting more. Two of my main suppliers are in an affluent area and they deal mostly with customers having fancy wheels that require the use of stickon wheel weights. For a limited time I am offering the following special price reduction from $63: buy one box at $61, but if you buy 2 or more, the price is $60 for each box. PRICE INCLUDES SHIPPING. I will remove this comment when the special is over. Thank you! ** End of Note **

For reference, you can click here: for#1 Post

If interested, please send me a PM. Thanks so much. ~ K

Picked up more WW's the other day and woes at the USPS online site.

Well, the good news for me, is that I fetched more WW's on Monday. They are waiting to be sorted through (1200+lbs), and another shop's buckets are almost full. I did some shipping the other day, and it was drama using the USPS site. Pardon the pun, it put a CRIMP on things. I wrote about my USPS drama at the Humor and Off Topic Forum.

    Take care all,

    ~ K

Broke finger at shop Tuesday, August 5th yesterday.

I tripped over an oil fill pipe that sticks up about 3 inches on the loading dock at the shop. I try to remember it is there, but I do trip on it. But yesterday, I did not recover my balance, and got propelled forward and stopped the motion with outstretch hand - but brunt of force went on ring finger of my left hand. It did not look good today, so I went to the VA. Even though I can bend it, it is fractured. Fortunately, it is something not requiring any kind of surgery and it treated as a soft tissue injury. I have to use the splint to protect it from further injury. But was told that I can remove it from time to time. I feel I should be able to carefully resume my casting/packaging operation in hopefully in less than a week. It hurts when much pressure is applied; so I don't want to lift 50+lb boxes in the next few days. I do heal quick, as a rule, and I think I will feel better after swelling goes down.

Upon return to the shop, my routine will now be to put a traffic cone over the fill pipe. It is in a bad place, a few feet away from the entrance to my shop.

But am still taking orders for lead if people can wait until next week for me to hopefully ship.

    ~ K

Thanks! One day at a time, and finger looks much better this morning! I now have devised easy management of the splint (it is snug, but not so snug to allow me to remove it - say to wash dishes, or take a shower); then put it back on for protection. Iced it a few moments ago; swelling still there, but not as bad as yesterday (WHICH I SUSPECT should be the worse day, so I think the worse is behind, and better days ahead - if I don't reinjure it). Just puts a "crimp" in my style! ~K

The birth of "The Splinter Glove"

Well, it is now about 4:20AM my time! My finger is feeling so much better, probably because I resumed sorting through wheel weights (and made my trays lighter than normal). I wanted to finish up a batch of ww's before tackling the new batch of ww's I fetched Tuesday morning. So yesterday (Thursday) I created a splinter glove so that I could keep my finger out of harm's way. And I now have a traffic cone standing sentry whenever I am at the shop (covering the pesky oil fill pipe aka "The Culprit").

If anyone is interested, I wrote about the birth of "The Splinter Glove" in my wordpress site and have pictures of my shop area, the culprit, the sentry and the progress of my finger's recovery! The pictures are in 2 PDF's that I have in the blog.

I am not yet ready to lift 50+lbs. I don't even want to try! I think within the next few days, I will be up to the task.

    Stay tuned!

And I just read your post AFTER I responded to your PM. Now here I was thinking of marketing this glove with a different name!

    Resuming now with lead shipments....

.... since I can manage (very carefully) packing and lifting 50+lb packages (and hauling to post office); did a batch today. The only thing I could not do was to safely lift to a high countertop where the clerks are. There are 3 stations, and only 1 has a "lower" countertop that is only a few inches higher than my rolling cart. But the other 2 are about 1 foot higher... a no no for me.

Finger is on the mend, but still hurts if it bumps into anything. I either wear my splinter glove or the splint seen pictured in a few posts above.

I now have traffic cone standing sentry. I SHOULD HAVE USED IT from the get-go, but experience is the best teacher. Now I am not so dumb, but smarter!

Trusty cone will now be standing sentry whenever I am at the shop.

I have an 8' x 6' stockade fence on wheels from years ago - acts as a privacy screen (main road is about 100 ft away). Sometimes when it is windy, I need 4 cement buckets on each side to keep it from blowing over! The fence once tipped (I had 2 buckets on either side, it knocked a bucket over); the wind was gusting to around 25 mph. I try to avoid those days that require 4 buckets on a side!

Well, off to pack up some lead!
