Deerskins into Buckskins: How to Tan with Brains, Soap or Eggs; 2nd Edition By Matt Richards
of course his instructions work for just about any kind of hide. Best book on the subject I have ever read. Forgot to add that it is available on Amazon for around $13.

Nothing like the feel of brain tanned leather! There can be some toxic stuff in the tanning mix, so be sure to wear chemical gloves.
Some good written instructions for the process can be found in Jay Massey's book The Book of Primitive Archery, if you can find one.
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!
I have done the Alum and Salt way and I still have some leather that I made a bag for my muzzel loading to go hunting with to carry what I need in it and i have tan that back in the 1970's late almost around 77 I thinkI was think about doing the brain way and from what I read on it that the brain of the animal is all you need to do there skin to tan it.
