The only thing I can think of is a starting load for BP RB loads. Whatever the diameter of the bore, that's your starting load, so lets say you have a .50 cal ML, you start out with 50 gr of BP, and so on. Or, multiplying a diameter by PI, (3.1416) will give you the circumference of a circle.
Regarding boolits, maybe the rule of thumb where we often hear and say the boolits should be sized to be .001" over the slugged diameter of the firearm barrel.
Then there is the one about shot guns and "square loads" and all of that.

The diameter rule that you can only beat your wife with a switch that is less than the diameter of your thumb? I think the shoe would be on the other foot if I tried that with SWMBO.
More usefully as Dromia suggests there is a rule that a bullet should be seated a minimum of one calibre diameter into the case neck.

Case neck length is my guess. Needs to be one diameter in length from shoulder to mouth on bottleneck cases.

I thought it was a device where you I put the diameter and it gave you the size of each piece of Pi......

This is a very informative thread. I now know the 'diameter rule' always refers to pie:
