Who All has Slugged Their M44 Mosin?

I'm thinking of getting an M44 to use as a basis for a practical "who-gives-a-damn-if-it-gets-beat-up" rifle. Weld a REALLY low bolt handle on, lower the right rear side of the receiver, cobble a receiver sight on it, etc. I've been through quite a few 91/30's and they all slug out in the .312"-.313" range. Are the M44's any different?
    Thanks,
    35W

    My 1948 M44 slugs at .300 X .312. Loves the 311299 beagled to .314 with 20gr. of SR4759 under it.

That's not "bad." It was by design.

You should read up on Junior's site,
    http://www.castbullet.com/misc/smount.htm

That link is about mounting a 'scope on a M44 but there is much more of interest, such as his "boat rifle", a '93 Mauser. There is a lot of info and just plain "good readin" on his site!

    M44

35 whelen: My m44 slugged .3135. I use the 312 "303" bullets. It works well. I would never discourage tinkering, but you might look at S&K's mount that uses the rear sight base to hold a pistol scope. It's a little pricey, but it involves no permenant modifications to your rifle. Mine will shoot i.5 to 2.0 inch groups using a cheapo bsa 2x scope. I use the lyman 313, 205 grain cast boolit in my 91/30. Ive shot 96 in military bolt action matches. Have fun!

My Romanian M-44 slugs at .312" x .302". It serves as behind-the-seat truck rifle, and has not yet done its best work with cast boolits. It DID run some of the Sierra 174 x .311" Matchkings into 5-shot sub-1" groups at 50 yards, but I had so much fun with those 20 rounds that I shot them up before walking the target out to 100 yards. I can be rather child-like on occasion. Those full-powered j-word loads are blasty SOBs in the short M-44 barrel.
I don't paint bullets. I like Black Rifle Coffee. Sacred cows are always fair game. California is to the United States what Syria is to Russia and North Korea is to China/South Korea/Japan--a Hermit Kingdom detached from the real world and led by delusional maniacs, an economic and social basket case sustained by "foreign" aid so as to not lose military bases.

I have a '46 Izhevsk M44 that I slugged. Came out at .302x.314. The bore is like new.

I also slugged one of the M38s at .305x315.

This isn't an M44 or M38, but the numbers are so close I thought this was worth sharing. My Remington made (1917) M91 slugged .3135. It shot .314 cast bullets well.

    Cool

    FWIW, my Ruskies slug:

    91/59 .300 x .312
    M 38 .300 x .314
    M 44 .302 x .314

    And the Finn M 39 goes: .300 x .310

All of the above, well maybe not the Finn, are good reasons for me to get in on Buckshot's .316 GB.
    Regards,

    WE
