    First non-Lee mold

Teaching my 18 yo helper to reload. Wanted to teach him how to cast as well so ordered an RCBS 150 gr mold in 270. Fired up the pot and started casting after a good cleaning. Liked it so much I branded myself with it. Sigh.... Mental note, leave long sleeve shirt on no matter how hot you get over the old coleman stove. Maybe I can get the wife to let me get a production pot? Less hot working over one of those I guess?

Fortunately my helper was not there, I was just trying to get the feel of casting with a steel mold. Might have been a good lesson for him though

Some people are way too into casting. Seriously branding yourself with your favorite moulds?

Exactly what I was thinking - tattoo the scar! Luckily it was not a 6-banger mold. Ouch.

I think it would have looked much better if you had opened the mold first so it showed the bullet outlines. But as a first attempt pretty impressive.

Seriously that looks like it hurt, hope it gets better soon.

Yes, lots of good ideas here. Could try clamping it down on a love handle to get the boolit profile. As far as how it happened....well, I had the mold in my rt hand and the burn is on the inside of my lt wrist.......hmmm, dont really know.... just barely kissed metal to skin....the top of the "H" is missing because of my watch band. Any way a moment of inattention combined with having my sleeves pushed up got me a good burn. Could have been worse. Lesson learned.

Ouch. Burns suck. I feel your pain. Had third degree burns on my left hand about five years ago. Not from casting. Bubbled up and blistered within seconds. Hurts like a ****.
