I tried some Habor Freight Red and used a #5 bowl and the powder clung to the boolits wonderfully. I took the boolits out with tweezers so there were no marks and set up right on non-stick foil. Then baked in my preheated oven at 400 degrees (has a PID so yes 400 degrees) for 10 minutes and the results were excellent. I tried this on my 375 H&H boolits and as I expected the alloy hardness from heat treated WW boolits being annealed in the curing process was an issue as the boolits become softer in the process (white poof at the end of the muzzle, a bit of leading and lost accuracy). This from my proven 1 MOA 100 yard load of Varget but accuracy wasn't horrible being 1 3/4" center to center. If I was to try the same boolit at the same hardness as these with traditional lube the groups would likely be similar or possibly worse. Now I could use a harder alloy like Lino however this is not my need for a hunting boolit.

Interesting though I did powder coat some 45 auto boolits too since I was in the process and those gave me a bit of a leading with my everyday 6 grains of Herco behind a 230 grainer. Accuracy with the auto boolits were the same as with my home brew lubed boolits and what leading was in the barrel came out with the next magazine of the lubed boolits.

I did the smash test and the harbor freight powder coat does what it's suppose to as it stayed on and never once chipped off etc. All in all I have mixed feelings but may go back and explore powder coating with handgun boolits.

For me it wasn't about the color, it was about what powder worked best.

Rob just WD out of the oven after a 30-60 sec bake. Or wait a month.
    Whatever!

30-60 sec bake? Waiting a month won't help unless they are water quenched again after the curing of the powder coat. Question does the water dropping with the powder coat mess up the powder coat capabilities i.e. smash test etc.

0-60 minutes is likely what Popper meant. You might want to try cooking a few more minutes, the actual boolit needs to reach 400 for at least 10 min. Possibly not fully cured?
I use water dropped coww, then wd again after baking. After 2 weeks the boolits are ~18bhn. I have been working with the 308 win in a ar. Have not achieved moa, but getting close. My loads are 1800 - 2200 fps with no leading.
Only once, I had problems with wd the fresh coating. It was hf white, applied with es gun. They all clumped together and turned into a hell of a mess

I'll admit I didn't read the whole thread, but if that is indeed HF black powder that you have, it will work with a wet tumble application. You don't need an ES gun to apply it.

I dump about 50 .45ACP bullets in a plastic coffee can and about a level tablespoon of powder, and about a teaspoon or so of lacquer thinner. Just enough to wet the bullets and powder and make them gooey. Then just tumble them till they're sticky and coated evenly and dump them on a sheet of nonstick tin foil and let the thinner flash off for a few minutes before you bake so you don't blow up your oven.

This actually cleared up my mysterious leading problem I was having with dry tumbled and ES applied red HF powder in my Ballester Molina .45. I think it's cause this method gives a thicker coating.

    It is, so use Google.

    Just type into Google:

site:castboolits.gunloads.com Then type your search words here

    Works perfectly.

So did the OP ever go back and try this again? If I can get a 158gr SWC over a healthy load of 2400 to not lead the bore then I would think anyone can.
