Rx7 is good stuff for cast boolit shooting. It really shines in .45-70 and .308 Win. It is my 'go-to" powder with 280 grain slugs in my .35 Whelen AI for velocity and accuracy

YEP, a few days ago I loaded some 222 test loads with Rx7.
it's been to cold to test them yet.

Being that SR4759 is being discontinued, I'm thinking about switching to RL7 for use in my 14" T/C 30-30 with a RCBS 165gr sil.I use 18.5gr of 4759 and it shoots great. That 's my load for IHMSA silhouettes. Any recommendations for a decent start load with RL7?

35 Rem, 375 Win, and 45-70 Govt really shine with this powder using my boolits and guns. It's not my go-to powder but maybe it should be, I keep winding up there. I even loaded up some rounds with it for my 32-20.

When I used to shoot a .308 from the bench Reloder seven was my favorite powder . Sorry to say I haven't tried it in very many other cartridges except for my woodchuck rifle with sierra soft points .

Alliant lists 23.5 grains as maximum under a 170 grain Remington Corelokt in their silhouette section. I'd have no problem starting 21 grains under the RCBS boolit. FYI, they claim the 23.5 load at 1,800 fps from a 14" barrel.

ETA: The RCBS Cast Bullet Manual lists 24.0 start and 26.0 maximum for the 308-165-SIL in the pistol section. The current Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook lists even higher maximums for similar boolits. Looks like the Alliant data is very conservative.

My favorite propellant. I use it all of my 30cal. It's a little slower than 2400 but lights as good.

I never shot any R7, but I use SR 4759 in all my bottle neck cast rounds , is R7 bulky like 4759 ? I like the way 4759 fills the case, I've been pondering on trying some R7 myself.

RL7 is a short cut extruded powder. Not especially bulky.

Reloder 7 is my favorite powder for cast boolits in the .250 Sav. and the .444 Marlin. Meters very well in my old Dillon 450.

Thanks that's what I was looking , I'm not the OP but thanks for this thread & replies - all good info . A silly wet shooter from Md. he uses RL7 in his XP 7BR with cast, he told me it was good stuff he said it wasn't temp. sensitive either . I might have to get a bottle .

Good in 222 to 45-70 for me. I don't recall if I tried it in 22 Hornet, but wouldn't be surprised if it works good there.

Testing it for .233 /556 needs some more work up now that the weather has cleared up.

I've been meaning to try it for reduced loads in the 35 whelen. Guess i need to pick some up now that 4759 is being discontinued.
