    Wood porn!

    Hey folks,

I thought I would share a bit of "Wood Porn". Goodsteel is building a rifle for me, and this is the blank that the stock will be made from.

I got this one just because it was there, and I have no use for it whatsoever at this point, It's a pretty special piece of wood, would love some ideas on what it is worth, as I may sell it to continue funding my other build.

Not a Mannlicher, standard stock length if that's what you mean. That's why the second stock won't work. That will make a 2-piece exhibition grade dream.

Either one would bring very good money on Ebay.
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Gorgeous wood! Is the wood already dry? If not, make sure sealant is on any and all exposed end grain and be prepared to wait a long time for it to dry. I love the bottom one since it will show the same flame figure on both sides. I have some stock blanks similar to those around here that are air drying that I picked up in the past several years on fleabay, but I am cheap and dig through the many lumber auctions for poorly listed, and cut, gems.

It's been drying for about 2 years now, it's supposedly at around 12% moisture.

It sure is great looking. At what moisture value is it considered ready to be worked?

Very nice wood, have no idea the value but that second piece of wood is drop dead gorgeous, porn indeed.
