I mixed up a very small amount a spoon of powder and a spoon of acetone, I did not add enough acetone at first.

The acetone dries very fast, I do not think the mixture would store very well.

The very small amount required to coat bullets in a bucket would result in mixing each time bullets are coated.

The powder coat dry stores forever and the acetone in a vendor can will store a long time.

I am going to try this again this weekend with a three to one ratio of acetone to powder.

All of the bullet gets coated each time the bullet is placed in the liquid.

The coating does not seem to flow like the powder does as it is cooked. The cooked surfaces is much the same as the surface when the acetone drys.

piglet did say in the other thread that it would keep for a long time. I think if it's mixed in closed container the acetone wouldn't evaporate, so it would stay mixed. I've been really wrong before...

I've got MEK here, which I believe is a reducer made for polymers, so I'm going to give that shot as soon as I can find some more lead.

I have some photo's to share of my success, but I also want to thank Ken73, and Colorado CJ for there ideas which I used to get these powder coated. These have not been shot yet, but I am sure I will have no issue with them. These are slick!
So the jig I made is expanded metal with roofing nails tack welded to it, and had 112 pins. My toaster oven is a 6.99$ Goodwill special, and the powders are HF red, and flat black. The boolits are the Mihec 359-125 H/P, and Mihec 452-200 H/P.
I am really liking the photo's of other set ups, and boolits.I would like to see more expanded H/P, P/C boolits.Keep em coming!

I did find some PTFE Teflon powdercoat. Emailed the vendor to be shure that it did contain PTFE. I would not coat the base with the stuff because of the toxic smoke, but if you want something real slick it is an option. There is some question of legality of Teflon coated bullets in certain states( Oregon is one of them) so proceed with caution if you decide to try it. We all know that the hype in the 80's surrounding Teflon coating is B.S., but that did not stop the media from influencing some states. In Oregon if you have Teflon coated bullets in the act of a felony it is basically a double felony.

xaces - I'd be careful with the teflon. It's only good to 700F, then goes thermoplastic. From what I've heard, it is hard to clean from the bbl, like moly coating. Bstone - I don't know what you get when you dissolve poly in acetone. Cooking doesn't just make it flow, it makes it cross link and strong. Your results will be interesting. Someone here was going to try the architectural/industrial version that is water based, haven't heard any results there either. My PC'd expander plug didn't last long, scraped all the coating off, same as recovered fired boolits. The one I coated with Minwax spar urethane has done fine for > 1K rnds, added ~ 2 thou. to dia. I tried the minwax ~ a yr ago, just dipping and drying boolits, didn't get leading but the bore was full of crud.
    Whatever!

Alright! Had a chance to go out and shoot some of these. The 9mm blew apart leaving just the base as expected from 25 feet. They went through 4 gallons of water with the front one taking the hydrostatic shock, and the three behind the first getting hit by fragments that pierced all four milk jugs. No leading after 50 or so rounds! This one I was having problems with getting an alloy soft enough to expand, but not lead. Problem solved!
Now this one is cool! This is a Mihec penta 452-200 at 25 feet. It went through two milk jugs and piercing the third where it was recovered. It expanded the size of a quarter, with no leading! I think the P/C ,and heat treatment made for a nice combination.

I read back a bit to see if I could find what you meant by heat treatment but no luck.

What allow were you using for the penta pins? I have that same mold and would love to push some hit loads with pure lead or close to it.
This might also help my issues in having with 9mm and 40

You are basically softening the bullet buy heating it to 400 deg. and allowing it to cool on its own taking any temper that was in the alloy out of it. The alloy I am using is ACWW, with 2% pewter. I use the pewter from junk at the goodwill store for the tin content. The same alloy with same treatment allowed the 9mm to blow apart. I do not think WW alloy will not blow apart unless there is about 50% pure lead in it. I am not the one to ask about the pure lead content with powder coating. There are some great folks in here that are much better versed to answer your question directly. As you can see my 9mm did not hold together. Only the 45acp mushroomed nicely.

I only have hollow point mold for the 45 so I should be good.
I'm just trying to get the 9 and 40 not to lead.

I'll be powder coating this weekend.

I've had a gun and oven for about a year with no real use for it. Time to make it useful I guess.

    Thanks man! Great work!

Has anyone attempted a slick sided bullet (like for paper patching) in any of these endeavors, if there is no reason for lube couldn't we do away with lube grooves? Not sure if there would be any benefits but it was just a thought.
