Can anyone spare a couple of the old steel case 7.62x54R

Was wondering if anyone has a few of the old steel case 7.62x54r (Empty Brass) to spare. I have a experiment I would like to try.

Are you thinking of reloading the steel case? I am lucky enough to have about 2700 .217 diam Berdan primers. I can reload 7.62x39mm, and 7.62x54R using the copper washed or zinc plated cases. I cannot reload the .254 diam caps, as the only source is in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and he wants $20.00 for 150 primers. The cases will split after 2-3 reloads.

    I have some questions:

Which steel cases use the .217 diameter primers?

Are these cases actually set up for the "x39" shorter primers, or the "NATO" taller primers?

If set up for the taller primers, have you found the shorter .217 "7.62x39" primers are OK for use in the deeper pockets of the x54 cases (though obviously the "NATO" taller primer should not be used in the x39 shorter primer pocket)?

    Thanks for any answers.

If you are looking for the .254 diameter primed cases, I'll have some in a day or so. How many do you want so I know how many to shoot?

If my project works I will post my results. If it appears not to be possible better off not knowing what it was in the first place. Still can use any anyone wants to send me.

No steel case 7.62x54R uses .217" Berdan primers. All Albanian (brass) and very early Bulgarian (brass) use .217" primers.

Primer size does not matter for my experiment.

Boy, I can't seem to walk two feet at my range in the summer time without stepping on those things. Sorry, I never thought to take any though.

I didn't think there were any .217 diameter steel cases - but he said he loaded them so I asked.

I have tried the 7.62x39 .217" Berdan primer in full power military cartridges, and the result was lots of duds and hang fires when using typical rifle powders. A poster here described enlarging the flash holes on full power cases, and the duds and hang fires went away. I tried varying seating depth, and that had no effect. I have not tried using pistol/shotgun powders with the weaker primers in full power cases. The full power cartridge I worked with was the 7.5x55.
