I need data for 200 gr. GC'd in 30-30

I have acquired these bullets but can not find any data to load them. I also am having trouble using the new search tool in finding any threads that may help. Closest data found was for 190 gr. cast in the Lee manual with Accurate powders only of which I only have one of them and it's 2520. I'd rather use something a Hodgdon, IMR, Winchester or Alliant powder as they're easier to find locally. These will be fired in a Marlin 336 20" micro-groove. Thanks in advance.

I've been looking around some too. At 200gr you're up to where it would be very easy to get an overpressure load in the 30-30. I don't doubt someone has done it though. Depending on the velocity you're looking for, I imagine it would take a slower burning powder than what is normally used in the 30-30 in order to keep pressure down. Someone with experience will chime in sometime. Right now we're all watching for the end of the world! Nirubu where are you?

Thanks for response madsenshooter. I hadn't really considered the hotrod type loads but wouldn't rule them out at all. Something along the lines of a 4198 or RL 7 is what I'm used to using with 170 gr. Oregon Trail at moderate velocities. Something along the 8208 or 4895 would be interesting.

Well my lee cast 170 gr its actually 179gr I run 28 gr H4895 at around 1998 fps. So if you started at 23 gr and work up I'd say you'd be fine. Work up from there at .5 gr, looking for pressure signs. Your max velocity will probably be around 1800 fps maybe less. I would hope you have a chrony a real must when working in unknown loads.

The Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook has an article on using 311284's (I think but 200 grainish anyway) in .30-30. I'll see if I can check later to see what load was used.

Okay then, I just looked and yes it was the 311284 (210 grs.) over 30 grs. of IMR4350 in an article by Frank Marshall. These were set up for a Savage bolt action rifle. OAL may be an issue for a Marlin 336.

Lyman #311291 @ 181.0 grs in WW with 33.0 grs of H4831 gives right at 1825 fps out of my Springfield 840's 18" bolt action carbine & is very accurate.
Lyman #311041 @ 172.0 grs in WW with the same load & firearm gets a hair better at 1860 fps. It is even more accurate.
Lyman #311284FP @ 205.0 grs with the same load gets 1790 fps & is the most accurate of the three. To work through the magazine the point of this boolit has to be flattened about
.22", & even with the flattened point the GC is still below the case neck. All three loads have
taken deer. All three were originally developed in a '94 Winchester & work just fine.

my only data with this combo is in a 340 savage. i improved the should to .406 x 30 deg. i got the 311284 going 2002 fps with 35 gr wc852f (h380 speed). if you use this info, start at 30 gr and work up.

that said, i think aa2520 would be a better powder.

The RCBS 180 fpI own throws a boolit closer to 195 gr checked. Use data for that boolit.

is that a pretty low pressure load? with a 200gr would you even need a GC boolit?

And if you want to go with a full power load, think Leverevolution powder. Imazing how it shoots in my 336xlr using a 195ish gr lee gb mould.
