Important Lesson Learned While Smelting Today

When the face shield is in the appropriate position, and the mouth fills up with tobacco juice... don't spit just yet.

Probably a good idea to put off the chew/dip until you're through casting and smelting anyway. The usual wisdom is, don't eat, drink, or smoke while handling lead; I think dipping and chewing would be right in the same ball park, in terms of increasing the amount of lead you absorb in a session.

Hand to mouth is bad if the hand was handling lead...anything else is fine IMO.

That's just too funny, but thanks for not post a pic.

Thanks for the health concerns... if there is an upside to this addiction, it's that I don't have to put my hand to my face constantly to enjoy it. A wad lasts a good long time and when it is time to reload, I'm usually ready for a bit of a break anyway; remove gloves and gear, go in the house, wash hands well, then refresh the dip, warm up the abandoned cup of coffee, visit Lake-A-Tiki... whatever. In spite of my bad habits, I do try to exercise proper caution around the plumbous. And I'm always willing to share my foibles so others may learn from my mistakes. It's my little gift to you.

    That's funny right there.
Always wear my face shield when pouring after my mold explosion this summer.
Due to market fluctuations I am no longer buying range scrap jackets.

Slightly off-topic but I quit dipping (after 40 yrs of it) 3 weeks ago. It's great not to be a slave to nicotine.

Do what a man did who worked part time on the dock I worked on did, there was a rule against spitting on the dock. He put a plug of Days Work in when he came to work and I never saw him spit anything out, he swallowed it all.
