.45-70 Double side by side?

Those are the Russian ones, they had problems with the 45/70 chambering at the outset, and they were slow to come to market, prolly like most Russian guns, stout but rough, tough triggers, etc....although i have not used this gun...

I tried one and it was terrible. Horrible trigger and the opening and closing the action was like breaking a leg off a roasted chicken!....With work, it might have been improved upon.

I built one using a Bakail 12g Shot Gun and insertion tubes sold by EAA.....Love it!

For relatively inexpensive 45-70 doubles, the Pedersoli ones are pretty nice. Still $3000, but it's a double, eh?

I've seen a review that the actions were very stiff when new. As long as the barrels are good and they shoot well, I wouldn't care. They'll probably loosen up a little with use. I just think a double rifle is just cool and would reduce the recoil a little. I like the idea of being able to regulate the second barrel after sighting in the first.

What kind of load and boolit are you using?

I have the 45-70 and the 30-06 double rifles from USSG. I enjoy both. Excellent lead boolit plinkers and fun guns. If I get a chance to pop a deer or hog, I will use one of them.... The 45-70 has been shot with 405, 450 and 500 grain top end trapdoor loads. The recoil was not a problem, probably kicks less than a Marlin Cowboy 45-70. I don't think you can go wrong for the price and the simple enjoyment of a double rifle. Sure the trigger is not target rifle easy, but who really wants that when a you see a big hog charging out of the brush within 50 yards?

I've read thousands of words written about these doubles on numerous forums, and I've ended up with the impression that they're basically hard-to-complete kit guns. But, my heavens, they're hard to resist! Who wouldn't want a .45-70 double to play with?

We use the rd 460 350 with 25 gr 4759 dont know what
the speed is.

I'd guess the recommended load would be a boolit of 500gr minimum at about 1800 - 1900fps , always firing both barrels at once to hold down the side to side twist on firing and having a backup backup rifle just in cast the buck needed another hit!

Bwahaaaa!!! Love it. Reminds me of my older brother showing me how to fire Dads old 10 gauge double shotgun. He had me pull both triggers, landed on my back and never trusted anything he ever said again.

Had my little brother do that before. We were sneaking up on the pond, duck loads in our doubles, ready for ducks, and here came a skunk, backwards, tail up, coming down the trail. I told him "give him both barrels". He did
Almost knocked him on his rear. He was MAD. Yelling "why didn't you tell me it would do that". I just shrugged my shoulders and told him "never done it before, I didn't know what it would do, but I have been wondering what would happen, glad it was you that did it, not me!" LOL

What is the exact model of Baikal coach gun you used? 2.75" or 3" chambers? Screw in chokes or cylinder bores? Thanks!!

I have one of the 45-70s. Haven't done amy serious bench work with it yet. So far just some plinking. Both short and long range. So far the barrels hit pretty close. Even at about 100 yds. Need to pick a boolit and get it regulated. I like it alot. So far the best shooting boolits are 150gr collar button and Lyman 300gr. Didn't have any of my 400 or 500 gr on hand.

It is the least costly double.

It is a model 43. It must have screw in chokes to use the inserts. I'm not sure what the chambers are., but I don't think this matters.
