    Nice buck picture

Got this 11 pointer Sunday evening. I was in a stand and looked over my shoulder and he was looking right at me. He wanted to go to his right but there was a watering hole, he could've ran forward or left but didn't. I thought he was gone but he walked by and was very on edge and lunged a couple times. I got a 35 yard shot after he passed by with my 45 colt lever action carbine and a 45-300G boolit going about 1550 FPS!

There was pass through goto post 10 for a correction 11-8-11

He was quatering away to the right and it hit the first shoulder and front right part of the lung. No pass through though.

Hit the shoulder, thus no pass through. I assume he hit the shoulder joint, not just the shoulder blade.

He ran about 100 yards and slowed to a stop. Turned to the right and went 10 yards and fell. His chest was full of blood and there was enough blood on the ground for easy tracking. I suppose if it hit a smidge to the left and hit the rib cage there would've been more blood on the ground.

Either way I've been stumbling around in a daze like a new dad! Everytime I've seen one like this its been too dark or too far away and even one time on a hill with my house in the back ground.

    Dandy!
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

    Corrections

Sorry to mislead but I did find an exit hole after another look. I started poking around to look for the bullet path and there is a exit on the off side a couple inches up from the start of the neck and about 1.5 inches left of center.

Boolit went in at the rear lower part of right shoulder joint and DID NOT enter the inside of the rib cage. It seems the only significant damage to the animal was in the neck when the boolit was on its way out. Some how more blood went into chest than was going out the neck.

I'm starting to think how lucky I was using that big boolit. It's a 300 grain RF gas check with a .330 meplat and 23.0 of H110. ACWW with RCBS pistol lube.

Very nice buck indeed! How bad were you shaking after the shot? I love that feeling. Good job and with your own round...... don't get better than that.

    Very nice.

I've been thinking about setting up a stand here on the property.

Was looking at one in Sportsmans Guide for $60 on sale. 15' high. Probably cheap.
