    JPW and availability

    Guys,
I understand the original JPW in the yellowish tins is hard to get or no longer produced.
I am coming the US in October and will be in DC and Louisville, and places in between!
Is there a particular place I could try while I am there?
    Thanks,
    Tony

The last time I bought JPW (Johnson's Paste Wax), I found it at OSH (Orchard Supply Hardware).
I just did a Google search and see it is available through Lowe's Home Centers as well. LINK <click here.

Many folks who have woodworking equipment use it on their cast iron surfaces, like table saws, band saws, joiners, and the like. It makes the surfaces very slick and does not effect finishing further down the road.
A very good friend of mine from Great Britain use to use Butcher's Bowling Alley Wax with equal success.
(My search also turned up this link to Amazon.com for JPW)

Something to note here is that these are hard paste waxes and do not confuse them with something like Briwax.
While Briwax is a great product, each coat of it removes the preceding coat so it is a NON-building type of wax. Briwax is made from bee's wax, and is a "soft" type of wax.
It might work, but you would be better off sticking with the formula.

One reason Paste waxes are difficult to find is because they aren't used as much anymore. How many of us have natural wood floors anymore?
Most stuff is some kind of plasticized product that is "Garronnteeed" for 50 years.
    That ain't wood.

    Happy Shopping Folks!

Home Depot or Lowes. Some grocery stores...

Trick is to look in the cleaning supplies area! That is where I FINALLY found it at Lowes. And not where I expected to find it.

Here in Michigan I`ve found the yellow cans of JPW at Ace hardware stores, Meijer Thrifty acre stores and most likely any old Mom & Pop general stores or old small hardware stores in off road small towns.Robert

I have bought it at both the old school local hardware store and Lowes. Lowes had plenty on the shelf, 4 cans?

Home Depot and Lowes both carry it. It will be with the cleaning stuff, right next to where they used to keep the snakes but had to move them cause they kept biting me. (I had asked the lady working there at Lowe's twice where to find it, the second time while standing 10 inches from it--doh.)

IF you're visiting friends/family, have them go out and round up however much you need NOW! You start looking for it AFTER you get here and they may be looking for it when you head home. My local LOWES has some...got to get another can or two and try again on 45/45/10, although my altered version with a tube of carnuba red added has worked pretty well.

The Super Walmarts carry it as well as Lowes and Home Depot. You shouldn't have any problem finding it.
Fast is fine, but accuracy is final!

    Jpw

Wal-Mart has it in the yellow tins found in their cleaning section; runs about $4.00 cn.

I love this stuff; I've even tumble lubed bullets with straight JPW with good success. Currentlly, I am using LLA with JPW, cut about 70/30.

    Just food for thought,

    HV

Walmarts around here are selling it in the 16oz cans for $5.88 and Home Depot has it for just a little more than that ($6.99 I think)

Lots of it available right now if you look in the right places.

Should be plenty available in the DC, No. VA., MD., area from any of the mentioned Wally World, Lowes, Home Depot! Same for Louisville and points in between. As said have someone make a quick trip and get a supply for ya and then package and transport as you desire. Are you gonna rent a car and try to drive around while here? The traffic around DC is a B_>_h! Whenever I have to be in DC or No. VA. I use the metro and VRE. Have a good visit! 10 ga

    Thanks guys for the replies.
Have a week in DC staying in the north west then driving to Knob Creek for the mg shoot.
Looks like there is a Lowes near our hotel in KY.
Thanks for the tip on driving in DC as we will have a rental car.
About the closest to downtown will be Arlington cemetary. The rest is outside,NRA museum,Aberdeen proving ground etc.

I'm cleaning out my Dad's garage, and guess what I came across. Have any of you ever seen JPW in a 5lb can????
I don't know how much was in the can when it was shelved, but it has dried up to a little over a lb. I guess even the good stuff won't last forever, in 115* storage, for at least 11 years.
I'm still gonna add some MS and warm it to make use of it.
    I'm saving the can too.

I remember the BIG cans. My family was in the tavern business for several generations, we used JPW with that big old floor buffing machine to make the asphalt tiles shine. Whenever I open a can of JPW thats the memory I have, that and trying to control the floor buffing machine, LOL.
