I don't think there is any such animal.
not knowing anything about your skill or experience or reloading and shooting ability, or what your idea of precision is.
buying a good mould is only a small part of being able to shoot a cast boolit well at 100yds out of a 308 Winchester. (assuming you mean 308W is 308 Winchester)
I'm afraid it simply isn't as easy as buying "the best" mould. There's a rather intense learning curve to this game. It's not for everyone. I'd advise you to research things in the archives here and see if you think your have the interest to pursue this.
Kinda like askin' "What's the best recipe for a lager?" at a microbrewer's convention. Too many undefined variables to even offer an educated guess.
Like Doby45, I truly doubt there is any such animal. I, personally, cast/reload for six different .30 cal. rifles...including a pair of .308 WCFs...and no two of them share the same "favorite" boolit.

I'm afraid I agree with all the preceeding posts.
That being said, the Lee C-309-180-R has a reputation for being easy to get shooting well, and if it isn't, it's the most inexpensive mistake you will make buying boolit casting tools.

The best .30 cal. molds aren't being made any more, they continue to win and set benchrest records.....Eagan (Don).
What would those molds be? I doubt I'll ever cast for .308, but I would still like to know.
By "best mould" are we talking the mould itself or the bullet design?

Saeco #315
With the .308 win short caseneck a very good design to start would be a 311299 or one of the 160 -165 silhouette designs.
The 311299 is on the group buy now on this form ,orders are being taken but it won't be out till late Aug or Sept.
It is a NOE ,NICE moulds, check it out on the group buy section.
Who makes the best is kinda a tough question.
You want to get started ,get a Lyman 311299 or get either their311672 or RCBS165 Silhouette & wait for a group buy 311299 from NOE.
The NOE is worth the wait. getting started on casting & shooting is not.
Get a mold & join the FUN .
Maybe you should do a do over on ?? . more like what mold designs would be best to start with for a 308 Win.
WELCOME to the form & the casting & shooting of castbullets.

I have 5 30-06's, 2 K31's, over a dozen 30 caliber molds, and am working on the OP's question myself...
And I will agree with all of the above...

One of the most endearing sights in the world is the vision of a naked good-looking woman leaving the bedroom to make breakfast. Bolivar Shagnasty (I believe that Lazarus Long also said it, but I can't find any record of it.)
If I had to do over again I would start with the Saeco #315. The mold drops all 4 boolits without tapping the blocks. I can maintain a steady rhythm without the blocks over heating. They shoot the lights out with very little work in multiple calibers/rifles. Etc etc...
For a standard mould for 100 yds. Saeco 315. I also have Don Egan's nose pour rendition of this mould. MX3-308-BR, IIRC.
For 200 yds. RCBS 165 Sil.
Why do cast bullets for the .308 look so different from the jacketed ones?
Thanks to everyone. Were very enlightening.
