    Lead prices

Stopped by the scrap yard today, roofing lead sheeting for $0.60 per pound (he has about 300 pounds) and ww's for $0.45 per pound (he has about 40 pounds)...good deals or not?

Scrap guys vary from area to area. Around here, those would be good prices.

The spot price of lead has been creeping up lately. Right now, it's around $1.07. Any usable material that you get for under a buck is actually good. For WW, I figure 75% good material. You do have a bunch of steel clips & non-lead WW to remove when you smelt a bucket of WW. You will never get 100% good material from them.

At $0.60 per pound , you should buy all you can.
I can sell lead to the scrap yard here near Ft. Worth for $0.60 per pound.
Sent from my PC with a keyboard and camera on it with internet too.

I give $25 a bucket for WW's but some times I get trash in the bucket that reduces the lead content. I figure that I am doing alright in the long run.

I paid $0.60 for lead pipe and sheets, $0.20 for WW here at the local junk dealer. I think I will get more WW this week from him.

The last I checked a few weeks ago the scrap yard here was paying 43 cents for wheel weights. I suppose it depends where you are. I would buy all I can at that price.

There we have it , the price of lead should never exceed $2.50 per pound because of the supply and demand principal.

    Lead

Here in the mountains of Virginia I picked up 411 lbs of wheelweight last Friday for .25 cents a pound at the local scrap yard. They had a 5 gallon bucket of just scrap leap I could have gotten for the same price. I figured 411 lbs would last me 2 lifetimes. So I passed on the other.

I doubt that many serious boolit casters will pay $2.00 per pound for lead in the near future. The reason we reload and cast is mostly because we are cheap. Learning that you can make better ammo by hand is mostly secondary.

Should have bought it, smelted it into ingots and sold it on ebay for $1 per pound and doubled your investment .
If grasshoppers carried .45's the birds wouldnt mess with them.
