Found a source of soft lead cast into one pound ingots. They want $112 for 50 pounds, $12.80 shipping. Does this sound like a good buy? No idea where they got it. They just say soft lead.

No, not unless you're mighty desperate for soft.
That's about $2.50/pound to your door. If you're patient you should be able to buy it here on the S&S for about half the total cost.
That's full retail plus a few percent.
I'd pass on it.

Sounds expensive. Might as well buy from Roto Metals.
+1, what said above, expensive
find out what the local scrap yard is buying lead for then offer roofers 2X that much for any lead they recover off roofs. I'm paying .50¢ per # for scrap roof lead
I’ve been checking roofers. They don’t have any. This lead is recovered tape on wheel weights. Melted and fluxed several times and in ingots.

There are two or three vendor sponsors in the S&S who sell lead. They usually post in their vendor ads when they have stock to sell, and there are more casual sellers that do the same on a more intermittent basis.
$1-1.25/pound is the max for "clean & fluxed (?)" ingitozed soft Pb from an unknown source. It could be anything with carp mixed in. They have no idea what's in there (furnish an x-ray gun data list mabe, at that ridiculous price?), just trying to make a fast buck off 'ya.
Unless you are completely & absolutely desperate for lead!
Look around this site. There are several S&S listings for soft Pb, and there is Roto, a good sponsor of this site. Stick with who you know!
banger
my opinion, if your gonna spend that much, you might as well spend a bit more and from roto metals there is no question about exactly what you are buying.
if you spend $2.50/lb from stranger what recourse do you have if they just happened to miss those zinc weights when they were melting all the stuff down.
when first trying to find local sources of lead ive found phone calls to be just about useless, visit people and places in person with cash in hand with work boots and work cloths on and maybe even a case of natural light or even a box of doughnuts.
Took a few cans and a bit of scrap steel to recycle. They had a lead for sale sign up. I asked for prices. Dirty lead was $1.15, melting into ingots was $1.50.
Spell check doesn't work in Chrome, so if something is spelled wrong, it's just a typo that I missed.
I'm hitting the St. Charles, mo gun show tomorrow, its a fairly big one
I'm going to take some lead ingots with me, soft ingots, clip on wheel weight ingots, & some ingots I mixed together for my own use
I haven't cast for 5 years & am obviously not up to date on lead prices
I checked what they were asking on EBAY, those people are nuts.
What would be a fair price, not looking to make a killing, just want enough to off set the price I'm going to have to pay for primers, if I can find any
I put together several samples of ingots I have to send and have x-rayed. Some I’m pretty sure are “pure”lead, some pure tin and some have 5050 or 7030 stamped into them. Some don’t have any stamp and are a mystery. But at least I will know.
I’m just waiting to hear from the fella to tell me where to
Ship the ingots to be x-rayed.

Ok. Demo man is one fellow who offered testing but I haven’t heard back from him on where to send the samples. Is there another recommendation out there I can send them to for testing?
As I mentioned before, some ingots are marked 5050 and 7030. Assuming that is lead/tin ratio, what kind of applications would each of those be good for? I’m still learning.
