    Iver Johnson safety auto

I have a rust bucket that I soaked in evaporust for a few weeks.
Forgot to take pictures of it before, but I really didn't think it would be salvageable.
Took some work to even get it apart.
It came out better than I thought it would.
    Springs were all shot.
Pits on some parts of it.
    I think it's a .32 cal second model.
    Trigger safety.
Anyone know if I'm correct on this????
Where can I get springs for it????
    Gunparts is out of stock.

I know these things are not worth much.
    This one even less.
If I can find the parts to bring it back to life, I was going to try and zinc plate it.
    I do have the grips.

That single side latch confirms it was made in 1896 or before. Here's a breakdown of how to ID the first model .32 Safety Hammerless (thanks to Bill Goforth's book, "Iver Johnson: Arms & Cycle Works Firearms 1871-1993")

    Model 1, First Model

Single top latch, 100'000 were manufactured in 1894, serial number without letter prefix, marked on the top of the barrel rib
IVER JOHNSON'S ARMS & CYCLE WORKS FITCHBURG. MASS.U.S.A.
    PAT'D.APR.6.86.FEB.15.87.MAY 10.87.DEC.26.93 PAT'S PENDING

Model 1, First Model, first variation

Single top latch, 100'000 were manufactured in 1895, serial number without letter prefix, the difference was the cylinder retainer, marked on the top of the barrel rib
IVER JOHNSON'S ARMS & CYCLE WORKS FITCHBURG. MASS.U.S.A.
    PAT'D.APR.6.86.FEB.15.87.MAY 10.87.DEC.26.93 PAT'S PENDING

Model 1, First Model, second variation

Single top latch, 50'000 were manufactured in 1896, serial number with B letter prefix, marked on the top of the barrel rib
IVER JOHNSON'S ARMS & CYCLE WORKS FITCHBURG. MASS.U.S.A.
    PAT'D.APR.6.86.FEB.15.87.MAY 10.87.DEC.26.93 PAT'S PENDING

Yes, that is indeed a trigger safety. Iver Johnson ditched that feature in all subsequent versions and models. All the various criticisms of Glock's trigger safety immediately come to mind. This is one of my favourite things about these revolvers; seeing all the supposedly "modern" innovations, that are actually a century (give or take a couple of decades) old. The springs you need can be found online, or in spare-parts bins at gunshows. In some cases, such as trigger-return springs, you may purchase something that is slightly oversized, and fit it with a file. I've even modified the transfer bar from a slightly newer model, to fit the proceeding generation. Work on it at your leisure, and it can be quite enjoyable.

Serial number on the bottom of the top strap, and bottom of the grip.

The bore doesn't look all that bad.

A proper two pin spanner to remove the firing pin bushing. You might be able to make a sorta usable one from a screwdriver if you are handy with a set of jeweler's files.

I've got a newer model 6 shot .32 cal. I'd like to know more about if anyone can shed any light on it. The frame is stamped
    F 2832X.
    It's just a wall hanger.

    Thanks,

    Slim

I have 2 of these. Large frame .38 and small frame .32. Rehabbed both of them. I just used a pair of snap ring pliers.
So many guns, so little time
