The wire shell deflector on a Hakim I have, has broken off.
It looks like it was spot welded on.
How can I weld it back on????

Spot weld it back on!
Looking for Ideal mold 419181 (44 Evans Long)
"Joined Dates" are deceiving if you factor-in "lurk" dates.
How in the world did that get broken? I've owned two Hakims and that's a pretty substantial part. Great, albeit strange rifles. Quite accurate and very loud!

No idea how it broke off.
I got it that way.
I saw on utube, that someone made a spot welder out of a transformer. out of a microwave.
Looks simple enough, but I don't know.
I could make a jig to clamp the handle to the cover.
Hit the button, and hopefully it will re-spot weld itself.
find a good sheet metal shop they will have a spot welder or have it tig welded.
The easiest solution would be to simply replace the entire top cover.
If the deflector is intact, brazing back on may be stronger repair that a spot weld.
Clean contact points extremely well, pre-heat, Tig(I'd use 4130 fill rod) post cool under welding blanket or optionally submerge in vermiculite(soil treatment from lawn material shop). Probably wasn't properly post weld heat treated after first welding, resulting in shatter-able steel-which it did.
I have a TIG.
Still learning how to weld with it.
I was thinking of drilling a through hole under each leg, and weld it from the back.
Would be a tiny bit shorter, but I don't think it's going to be a problem.
I'll have to check to see what's on the back side.
ER 70 wire is OK for this. drill cover out at attachment point, jig it up, and plug weld with tig from inside of cover. no need for preheat or slow cool, as no restraint, and thin parts. get on and get off. don't linger. practice on a mock-up first if inexperienced. welding engineer here.
The holes idea would be my path also, but I would think the Ol' Mig would work just fine also.
