Looking forward to your range review! I guess my 7.62x39 version will have to do for now, still toying with the idea of that 35Whelen....

A review might be a while coming...... he doesn't have them listed as "allocated" yet, and also I'm still haggling with what I consider to be a fair price for a kidney.

For $1400 I don`t like #1`s that much!Robert
If I was more of a hunter than a shooter one of these would be mine, esp if you like classic guns, calibers and looks.....still tempted but not $1400 tempted.

I have one of the blue ones and it shoots great with cast 150's or 170's .
I hunt with the cast 150's and took a nice buck the first time out .
I know it seems like a lot of money (it is) but you only live once.

One of these days Bud's will get em for less than $1400, or I'll find somebody to cut out that dealer markup. I don't know how much it is, but I'm sure my dealer is wanting to clear a truck payment off of the sale.

Yesterday I was looking through my old Handloader Mag. And saw an add for Ruger #1's 405$ I had a bad rest of the day. That was in 82.

Theres a fine line between genius and crazy .. I'm that line
and depending on the day I might just step over that line !!!
I like the #1 I have (7x57) and would be interested in one in 30-30 but NOT for $1400. I will stick with my savage 340 in 30-30...it shoots great and didn't cost an arm and a leg !
Death to every foe and traitor and hurrah, my boys, for freedom !
Finally the 30-30s appear to be rolling out. Mine is supposedly on the way now and I confirmed it with a second phone call.

Ruger has been putting out a lot of great stuff for both the go fast people and those of us that actually like to take our time, and make our shots count. Anybody been playing with theirs yet? how does the chamber on them look for throat etc for longer bullets.

I am new on here. I have a Ruger #1 that I'm planning on barreling in a 30-30. I know for a fact that 30-30 brass, when fired from a strong action can be loaded to velocities that are very close to a 308 Winchester. I have used a 30-30 for 100 and 200 yard benchrest competition for 23 years. My user name on benchrest.com is the same as on here, and I have posted a lot of chronographed loads on there. Please remember that these loads are only proven in a strong action, with proper headspacing, and as little of the case out of the barrel as possible. Do not attempt to shoot these loads without contacting me , and working up with much caution.
To give you and idea of accuracy and velocity, the rifle has shot groups in the zero's and one's. I have won BR matches shooting against the 6PPC on many occasions. My best 200 yard groups have measured under .200" for 5 shots. As for velocity, I typically push a 125gr bullet between 3000 and 3150 fps.

Hey I paid $200 for a Baker side by side 12 gauge and a '29 Winchester 94 in 30-30. I sold off the Baker and kept the 94. Now I just need to find the time to work up some decent loadings for some PC boolits I just finished.

Still regret not getting a Ruger #1 in 30/40 Krag when they made the special run a few years ago. Do have a #3 in 30/40 Imp that was restocked in an attempt by the previous owner to duplicate a Euro style stalking rifle. Fun shooter with cast and with 150 gr RN j bullets at about 2600 fps quite effective on deer.
reading this has got me wanting another #1 and thinking about getting one of my 30-30s out and doing some hunting with it this year
When I first became aware of the Ruger #1 in the early 70’s suggested retail in Shooters Bible was $265 and suggested retail for a #3 was $165 . Over the years I’ve owned around three dozen #1’s mostly B’s with 3 or 4 V’s and three H’s . At the moment I still have three a 243 B a custom rebarreled B/V in 22-250AI and an H in 375 H&H . At the moment I also have a #3 that started life as a 44 MAG but was a 444 when it came into my possession and so far has been cast only . My desire for any new #1’s is diminished to say the least but I would be up for a 1S with a 22” barrel blued walnut in 444 . I’d also be up for a 1A blued walnut in 260 REM . Will say I kinda wish I had back the 1B 264 Win Mag I got new about six or seven years ago .
