    Another reason I like cast

Took a .G2 Contender in .17 HMR squirrel hunting this evening. First thing I've killed with a jacketed bullet in about eight years. I bought this rifle last year on a whim and it sure is accurate, nice gun. If you use one on anything you plan to eat, stick to head shots.

Hard to tell from that picture and I couldn't seem to get the other to post. Still trying to figure out exactly how that hot angled, but everything from its chin to the middle of its sternum was gone. Fortunately, didn't hit any edible parts really.

This rifle was one of those opportunities that was too good to pass up, though I had no interest in a .17 HMR. If I had a ground squirrel of prairie dog population nearby that needed thinning, this rifle would be great, but eventually, I'm gonna have a barrel in .22 Hornet or .218 Bee on it somehow.

The hummer works really good on groundhogs out to about 150 yards..I have a contender and Savage rifle in it.

Nice shot, I don't wanna waste the front shoulders either I decided I wanted to shoot up some 17HRM I had on the shelf so bought me a Marlin 917 to hunt with this year. I usually hunt with a sleeper/sporter 10-22 and subsonics. WOW that 17 is loud, and the first one I shot was hit on the bridge of his nose and exited slightly below the ears directly between them. Nothing left of the head but skin !!! Have been using it since then for armadillos and starlings around the house. 2 wings left from most starlings. It does shoot very well and sometimes I can't resist a head shot on a starling. Back to the nice little quiet 10-22 for the woods, head shots are the same either way.

I love my Savage bolt gun in .17 HMR! I totally agree on the statement about head shots only! Will make a mess otherwise! It's a squirrel assassin's tool !! And rabbits, and just about any light game! Usual shots are one and done!
I firmly believe that you should only get treated by how you act, not by who or what you are!!

Yep, very impressive cartridge, just takes a long time for the woods to get back to normal after a shot. Although, no worse than a shotgun in that regard.

I have a 17MachII bbld 77/17 and it is surprisingly quiet... Longer bbl maybe and less velocity.

I didn't notice the shot as being particularly loud. It's the only time I ever shot it without hearing protection, but I'm an old artilleryman and half deaf anyway.

Beginning to give some thought to a rechamber to .17 Hornet, but I'd rather have a small, rimmed .22 or .25 barrel for it.

A friend of mine bought one in a left handed browning Tbolt thinking he would be able to swap for my right handed Tbolt in 22 mag, but he is just the proud owner of a lefty so far. lol
