Lovergn style boolets in 300 Blackout

A good friend of mine just gave me two NEW RCBS .308 Loverign style gas checked boolet moulds in 150 and 180 grain weights. Has anyone ever tried this style boolet in an AR15 in 300 Blackout and what was the result? I'm asking before I invest in sizing dies, top punches and gas checks just to try them.

    Thanks in advance,
    Houndog

    I would bet he's talking about RCBS 82011 & 82013.

i don't think you'll see the advantage of the original design for what it was intended. They'll have to be loaded short or the front bands sized down to fit the chamber. In a single shot, this may not be as big of an issue.

Thanks guys! I think I'll just sit tight for a little while on this project. I'm new to the 300 Blackout and am still learning about it, but it does peak my interest as a cast boolet shooter. Building one on a bolt action and slowing the twist rate down to 1-10 or 1-12 as a supersonic cast boolet shooter might be fun.

    The one (Ar15) I had in 300 BO had a 20" 12 twist just for that reason , I think you'll like it .

My 308 and 30/30 certainly like the Loverin's from Lyman as does my wife's 243.

I'm sure you will enjoy it, I have both a 16" carbine and 7.5" Encore Barrel, both threaded and I do have a can for them. Mine get lots of use.

building one on a bolt action and speeding the twist rate up to 7 has proved much more fun.
you only have a teaspoonful of case volume to work with supersonic is easy enough to get but pushing the 18-1900 fps area is a chore with anything in the 15-160gr range.
120's will get up there no problem in a 7 twist but it also stabilizes the big long heavy stuff at the lower end and that's where most of the fun is with the 300 anyway.

Thanks again guys! The one I have is a 16 inch AR15 with an 8 inch twist. The loads I have worked up so far are with 110 and 125 Hornady J words using Winchester 296 or Lil Gun powder. Five shot groups are running around 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 at 100 IF I do my part. I went ahead and ordered a sizing die, top punch and a box of gas checks to get started using boolets. While looking at molds on Midway's website I ran across an RCBS mold that looked interesting. Has anybody used the 7.62mm-130-spl boolet in a blackout?
    Again, THANKS for the replies!

My 1-8 16" rifle really likes the NOE 311407. That's a 170 grain Loverin style bullet.

I use a 150 gr gc Loverin in my .30-30 exclusively. It gives me my best accuracy, bar none!
