    Lube heater idea

    I just had a thought.
I remember once we had to bend a PVC pipe.
There was a flexible wrap that went around the PVC and plugged onto 110v.
It heated the PVC so we could bend it to fit.
Could this heater, with some kind of regulator, be used as a lube heater????
It could be wrapped around the tube, and would keep the lube heated, and not the whole bottom of the luber.

I picked up a section of pipe heating cable for a buck at a rummage sale. When i go back to using hard rifle velocity lubes i will attach it with some quick grip clamps give it a try. Its bound to be better than my old system of setting the Lube-o-Mattic on the radiator for 20 min and then sizing as fast as i can till the lube cooled.

I got this wire heater a few years ago attached to the Modern Bond lube/sizer. Still works, made ??? Never found any reference to it in print. Clearly it is made to coil around a lube tube.

I know what you are talking about. Way too much heat and not cheap. The Lyman Cartridge Heater is only 20 watts and is more than enough.

Most want the whole sizer heated especially the lube channel from the bottom of the reservoir forward to the die.

I just use a heating pad on my old 450. Wrap it around to warm it up. I generally use it lower volume runs with softer lubes. I use the heated for 4500 for large volume work.

That Kats heater looks much better and it sure is cheap.

You can find many similar silicone heating pads on fleabay. All kinds of different sizes and wattage. The one I use is 2" x 7" and 25watts, cost $18 shipped I think.

I used these two items and some aluminum plates to build a lube heater. Works great. Use the advanced search function under lube heater. That's where I got the idea.I used 1/4 inch plates screwed together to the base of the sizer with a cutout for the heating element and drilled a hole in the sizer base for the probe. A hacksaw and drill and your in business.

I tried heat lamps, and a ton of other stuff that just kept getting in the way so I bit the boolit and got the Lyman heater and it's been working fine for 5+yrs. Plug it in, put on a pot of coffee and usually by the time the coffee is ready, so is the sizer

You can buy self regulating heat trace. Basically they are rated so many watts per foot, and won't go above or below that rating. We use it all the time at work to keep lines heated to 70F. Just powered with 120v, you don't need to worry about it overheating. Can be bought from Thermon or heatline

Plain old clothes iron. Put an aluminum or steel plate between your sizer and bench, set the iron on it and regulate the heat to the level you desire.
