    How soon we forget

As I put out MY flag again today I gazed up and down my street.

As far as I could see (about 1/2 mile) not one more flag was flying on either side of the street.

    Yes we have forgotten.

We are nearing our 3rd generation without the draft or military obligation. The draft dodgers from the 60s are ones running the show now. Memorial day is to special to be a floating Holiday so Federal employees can get a 3 day weekend, was always the 30th and still should be. Heading out for the cemetery in a few more minutes here. I keep one hung in the front window of my house all the time, along with the blue star flag for my son in the Marine Corps.

My flag has flown daily for more years than I can remember. Too many Americans have had their lives cut short defending it for me to do otherwise.

We have 2 flags. The first is outside on the front porch. The second is a folded flag in a triangular holder next to a picture of my late Marine son.

An elderly Navy vet, next door, from WW 2 keeps a flag on a standard flying 24/7 and 365.Robert

My neighbor is a VN vet. It's touching to watch him put up his flag on days like today. After he raises it he salutes, pauses and goes on his way. He hasn't forgotten.

Finally getting a new house of my own June 26th.

The first project is an illuminated flag pole. My grandfather was in the Army Air Corp during the end of WWII, then joined the Marines. Then afterwards was a navy Seabee. He told me his last memory was flying out of Bakini Atoll when his time there was up. I asked him why didn't he still around to watch the blast. "When it was time to go you got on the damn plane!" Was his answer.

I asked for only three things when he passed.

All three of his honorable discharge papers from all three branches of service.

Thank you to all those heroes who are still guarding us...from above. I just got back from a parade and what is just as galling is when people don't stand for a flag passing by or those who don't take their hats off at a game during the National Anthem.

My flag flies 24/7/365 and is lighted at night. I am not the only person who flies the flag either. And in our small town on Main Street every light pole has two flags flying, except at Christmas when the Christmas ornaments are up. New flags are placed every couple of months so as not to have dirty flags.

Our small town had Memorial Services today, I recon the crowd was around 800 to 1,000 people, we read every name of every Veteran buried here, its now close to 1,000 names and takes around 20 to 30 minutes.

    Nope we have not forgotten.
