32 H&R MAG & 115 grain cast bullet?

Does anyone have load data for the 32 H&R Mag with 115 Grain cast bullets? I am looking for a starting point. I will be loading them for a 8" Contender barrel. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks !

Thanks for asking, I have a great one for this. I'm using a 113gr Lee 30 cal GC without the gas check over 5.5gr of AA#5 and a WSP in Starline brass. Don't know the velocity but it averages 1 1/4" groups (1 1/8", 1 1/4" and 1 3/8")at 100 yards from my 10" contender barrel. That was three shot groups from sandbags using a 7x pistol scope. I have used that load for over a year and it has been very consistent.

I did not have any luck at all with slower powders, so you might stick to the faster burners.

Thanks to both of you for your responses. I have not started casting my bullets just yet. I am considering it at this point. Anyway right now I'm using commercially available bullets. I will have to pick up some AA#5 & give it a try.

Be careful with some of these, they may be a little hot in some guns.

Try 3.2gr of titewad and a wsp primer. I shoot them in my Ruger.

I make these for the cowboy shooters and myself. I shoot them in a 32 s&w case with 1.0gr of titewad and a magnum primer. This yields a velocity of 525 fps.

Since you are going for more velocity, the 3.2 gr should give you a good starting point.

I use 4.4 grains of Unique with the Lyman 311008, which is 115 grains. However, it is seated longer than normal for the throat in my Merrill. I would recommend starting no hotter than 4.0 for seating to the crimp groove.

You have posted some of the most comprehensive load data tables for the 32 Magnum (in revolvers) I've seen to date. That 7.0 x 2400 has been a real winner for me in my Model 16 x 6" using WSP primers and Mountain Molds Short Fat Thirty (plain base) 120 grainer. The boolit was intended for the 32-20 revolvers, but if it's sent at higher velocities it behaves itself in the 32 Mag.

Wish I could help with the fixed breech 32 Mag handgun data, but all my work has been with rollerpistols. I just landed a Lyman #313631, and will be trying out some of these in the S&W later.

Rich Jake-that posted data table looks fine to me. I might mention that you should be _very_ cautious of some 2400 loads that have been published in magazine articles over the lifespan of the .32Mag. I used a _published_ load once in my Ruger to shoot an extraordinary 25yd group (I won't say how small, but I kept the target!) and then ruined 2 aluminum cleaning rods while driving the cases (none too gently) out of the chambers. Start low, even in a single shot.

Good reminder, Longhorn. Gotta remember as we ply this trade that the brass case is the weak link in the chain. I'm still using some Federal 32 Magnum cases from 1985, and however Federal made them--I haven't had ONE OF THEM fail in any way, not even a case mouth split yet. I haven't run most of these very hard, but they must have 40+ loadings. It's probably time to retire these and replace them with some Starlines, but I think curiousity keeps me recycling the critters. Just how long will they last?

Overall, I would say that the 32 Magnum ranks as my most satisfying revolver caliber to shoot due to my gun's fine accuracy and the very user-friendly nature of the caliber for the operator and reloader. It seems "just right" for small game and small varmints in the same way the 25-20 WCF or 32-20 WCF perform in a rifle on similar quarry--that is, there's something left to cook after it's harvested if you don't "firewall" the loads, something not true of the 223 or 22-250 in most cases. There's a time and a place for The Red Mist, of course--but such processes DO spoil table fare.

Ok Here's todays results for comparison purposes.Since most data was with revolvers. I found out a couple of things today. First I need a taller front sight. I was shooting about 4" high.

115 Gr Meister sized.313, 3.0 Grains of Unique & CCI500 primer 904 fps ave.

115 Gr Meister " " , 5.4 Grains of AA#7 & CCI 500 primer 1019 fps ave *

115 Gr " " " , 6.0 Gr of 2400 & CCI 500 primer 985 fps ave

115 Gr " " " , 9.0 Gr of Lil Gun & CCI 500 primer 1270 fps ave

115 gr " " " , 9.5 Gr of " & CCI 500 primer 1311 fps ave

* The most accurate was AA#7 load. I didn't post the distances or group size due to being closer than I would have liked but because of the sight issue it was unavoidable. I can still go further with most loads. The Lil gun may be the max. A good point here was there was absolutely no leading of any kind. Thanks for the help & getting me started!
