    .44 Mag again

lets take a look at some pet loads..

offbeat powders welcome (Green Dot, HS-7, 571 & 540, Pb)...

    240gr generic commercial LSWC/BB
    8.9gr VV N320
    WLP primer
range pickup brass (mostly Remington, some Fed, a few Hornady)

330 gr TC/gc commercial "hard cast" (this bullet didn't work worth a snot in my .444, but performs well in my SBH)
    14 gr 2400
    WLP primer
    Winchester head stamp brass
I thought this load would recoil like a mean SOB, but with the Hogue's on the gun, it's quite manageable.
another thing I noticed about this load, it shoots quite high.. like 4" at 50 yards high.. but groups well

In the day (late 1970's) I shoot long range silhouettes, my standard loan was my cast 429421 245gr SWC over 21gr H110 and a CCI magnum primer. I shot thousands of that load and it was very accurate out of my Smith 29 and a Ruger flattop Blackhawks. Today my favorite load is the same boolit over 10gr Unique and a standard primer. I have not shot either load over a chronograph. I guess the older I get I don't see the need to punishment myself or the guns.

If both bullets are traveling near the same speed, the heavy weights will shoot high, the light weights will shoot low.

What Ben says!!! Doesn't seem logical, but it is reality! Learned that many, many years ago shooting cast in 06. 220 gr 311284 always shot higher than 170 gr 311291's at about the same vols. Guess it is physics, or gravity, or maybe it is that there is the reality of vol vs gravity.

Recoil along with the time the boolit is in the barrel. Heavier boolit, slower boolit, more recoil, the higher it impacts the target.

    something like that..
I know that was one of the original selling points of the .41 Mag.. flatter trajectory than the .44

I do it the old way.. learn where it shoots at a given range..
