Looling for a 1" cannonball mould

Does anyone have knowledge of where I can have a 0.98 inch lead ball mould made? I have a cannon which will shoot 1 inch (0.98) balls. I thought to make one out of plaster but a nice brass, alum, or steel would be nice. Email me a t drsja@yahoo.com

Do a search for Jeff Tanner molds.
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.
John Taylor - "African Rifles and Cartridges"

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!

    1" ball mold

I contacted a friend yesterday that has a CNC shop.
He told me he would be glad to make up some molds.
I will have some made if anyone is interested.

You can buy them off of ebay.
MSCdirect or McMaster Carr probably sells them also.

You can get a lead ball swage kit from Corbin - http://www.corbins.com/bsk-1.htm

    They are not cheap though.

I suspect a ball mold would not only be much simpler for most people to use, it should be a lot cheaper.
If I do it, I will not raise the price for my small amount of effort unless I do a lot of the work on them myself. All I need actually is the cavity machined. I can do the rest.
I may just get a few molds made and sell balls.
Zinc is easy to get and free or at least real cheap now so I may cast only zinc for cannons.
I could loan out molds so people could cast the mill balls they need.

40 British pounds for a 1" diameter brass mold sounded pretty reasonable to me. Brass bar stock is over $5/lb these days. Who did you think was getting ripped?

Could be, because I have no idea what a pound is worth.

    1 british pound = 1.56 US dollar

    So a mould costing £30 + £5 shipping is equal to $54.60

Please make me proud and supply any round ball mould at days notice for less.
Then you'll have all my buisness!

    Untill then STFU Longwood!!!

Thanks for the information Chicken thief. Sorry I accidentely rattled your cage.
Last time I recall the pound was way up there.
My not knowing what it is now worth, is probably because, I could give a rats patootie about ANYTHING British.

But hey,,, we are all friends here,,,, right?
Stop by Monday afternoon and I will have a mold for you.
    What size would you prefer?

I made one quite a few years ago for a neighbor,I made it 1.00 dia and after shrinkage the balls came out right sized for a flannel patch . That cannon was pretty hard on cars. He wanted to take it deer hunting ,but was afraid of fines.
I was going to speak up about making some but at $56, not worth the time I'd have in setting up and doing the programming .
    sent via hammer and chisel

need oversized powder funnels , PTX's or expanders ? just ask, I make 'em for most brands plus my own styles.

The thing is,,,, I already have the brass and my friend said he would do them as a payback for some welding I did for him. He said he can do it in about an hour and can make ten nearly as fast as he can make two. I do the programming myself and it sure does not take very long to program half of a round hole.
I DID NOT SAY I WAS GOING TO CHARGE FOR THEM. I am retired with a good income so my intentions were to help members, not make money off of them.
I will have two molds of two different sizes this monday.
I am getting tired of people jumping on me for no reason,,, so now because of one rude person, everyone else, that was asking about them earlier, can forget about my offer.
