Ditch the Partner for a Spartan?

I have 3 presses on my bench.

    RCBS Rockchucker Supreme
    RCBS Jr. II
    RCBS Partner

A Lyman Spartan fell into my lap recently (ouch). I'm been contemplating replacing my Partner with the Spartan because it's heavier duty.

I don't usually use my 3rd press station unless I don't want to disturb the dies in 1 and 2.

I've also been thinking about making a mobile station in case I want to work downstairs in front of the TV. I could use the Spartan or the Partner for that.

    Just can't decide.

A mobil press could come in handy when away from the bench or at the range. Depends on your actual needs though.

I totally agree. I take a mobil press with me to the range or hunting grounds.

Never been real keen on loading at the range but I like my spartan and spar-t presses. If I want to watch tv its on the wall in the garage. I mounted an old one out there and it comes on automatically with the lights.

I only take ammunition with me to the range. It's all been worked up already.
I have enough stuff to deal with, without trying to take the shop along.

When I went hunting, I didn't need a lot of ammunition. One shot=one kill.

And I don't even listen to music when reloading. Why would I want a TV going?

    Yes, I AM weird.

A Lee Hand Press comes to mind.
It's my only press, the only one I need, I really like it.
Carry it anywhere, no bench needed, packs away easy when you are done.

I'm a scrounger. Everything I have is used except for the rockchucker santa brought me.

The Lyman Spartan is a good press. I use mine to load thousands of rounds for service rifle competition every year.

When I prep brass, I resize it all (500+ at a time) and then clean it. I have had a press mounted on a roll cart so I could take it from the loading room to my chair in front of the TV. For resizing and depriming it becomes boring when you are doing 500 + pistol cases.

I aslo mount my luber sizers on the same cart to lube and size a large quanity of boolits at a time.

    Works for me.

Nothing weird about it. When I'm reloading I don't need distractions. Don't even have a radio in the shop. Each to their own on that one I guess. It's just that I'm dealing with things that make a big bang.
I'm with you on taking the loading bench hunting . . . or to the range. I could just see myself trying to zero my beam scales on a shooting bench. Don't use digital . . . no need.

I weigh all of my rifle loads, one at a time. Tried it at the range house once, too much air coming thru the cracks in the walls affecting the balance scale. Probably would work with pistol cartridges 'cause I use a Lil-Dandy for most pistol stuff, however, I always first check a couple thrown charges before I start with my balance scales, so, guess that would not work for me, either.

I do most of my pistol work in the back yard, also any rifle work up 100 yds and under, usually only go to the range when meeting someone to shoot together or if I want to do work over 100 yds.

It's convenient to have a range in the back yard, one of the major reasons I moved here.

It sure is - Get a lot of exercise too.

Load 3 test rounds in the house
Go out back door to range
    Shoot the 3 test rounds
Go back in house saying - 'that ain't going to work'
    Load next batch
go out back door to range
    Shoot test batch
    go back in house

This can go on for awhile - also have to go down range once in awhile to change targets.

Get tired - take nap - then go back to it!

Wouldn't trade it for city living!

I really liked the Partner press that I had, shortly after they came out; I think i paid $39.99 for it. I wish it hadn't came up missing in a move.

For a portable setup, I think the lighter press would be better; but I also can't see loading lots of rounds at a range.
