New BassPro Shop.

I have never been to a BassPro shop. We have one that will break ground next month and is supposed to be open in November.

Anyone have any input as to prices for shooting supplies? Do they carry reloading supplies? Casting stuff?

We recently had a Bass Pro open in Macon, GA and while they carry some reloading supplies, it's some of the more common items. Don't expect a large selection, especially casting stuff.

I have visited several other, along with Cabela's and while they are entertaining, I seldom buy anything. I seem to find better deals locally or online.

I seem to always leave a little disappointed.

CJ, We have one here close. The prices are retail and selection is somewhat limited. They are a neat place to visit though. Not quite as good as Cabela's. Over the years I have ordered quite a bit of stuff from Cabela's and while the prices aren't the best the quality and customer sevice is first rate.. The advantage to both is that they typically have stuff that you can see and try and sometimes not available at other stores.

The one in Las Vegas is well worth going through. It is located in the Silverton's Casino and it is a huge store with a 75% mezzanine. It has many realistic displays of stuffed animals and live fish in pools and running streams. They have two built in shooting ranges, one rifle, one pistol. I've never used them but I wouldn't expect them to be more than 50 yards in length. They probably have over a million dollars worth of guns on display, everything from what you might see at WalMart to highly engraved collectors items and African rifles from the big name makers in England and Europe. They do have reloading equipment and components, their prices are discounted somewhat, not as cheap as we can find it, but they have it! Walmart and your typical sporting goods places don't stock one tenth the variety they have here. They also have lots of fishing gear and outdoor clothing and electronic equipment, $50,000 fishing boats and ATVs and about anything you can say is associated with sports. And if that isn't enough, right beside the interior entrance to the Bass Pro, the casino has a big 12-15 foot deep glass swimming pool stocked with lovely young maidens in bathing suits that would make CarpetMan give up sheep!

I've been to 3 in Georgia (Atlanta, Macon & Savannah). The 2 older ones used to have presses, dies, components and stuff, but got away from that and as I recall sell mostly just powder now.

I heard somwhere that Basspros is getting rid of all reloading stuff. I don't know for sure if it is all or selected ones but that is what I heard! The one here in Vegas is nice (for here) and prices aren't bad either (for here). It's hard to find much here in the way of reloading and when you do the prices are usually steap!.

If you want reloading stuff you don't want Bass Pro. You want Sportsmans Warehouse. They have powder as cheap or cheaper than a lot of online places. I just bought 8 lbs. of H4831 for either $111 or $113 and 8 lbs. of Clays for something like $92. I had to pay 9 1/4 TN tax but they gave me 5% off for military discount. It saves a lot on hazmat and shipping. The closest one to here is in Chattanooga. I have to go there every month for drill so I stock up. It isn't as fancy as Bass Pro or Cabelas but it isn't as crowded or as pricy, either.

As previously stated, their selection of BP stuff and Casting stuff is limited. They DO however have Goex black powder, which is nice if you use it and find yourself in a pinch. It is not on the shelf, you must ask, and tell them it's in the safe in the back. Lots of employees don't even know they carry it!

They are the only place I know of within 50 miles of me that sells real black powder

The Bass Pro shop in Council Bluffs,Ia, is quite nice, good layout and is large. We have a brand new Cabelas here in Omaha, and the price of powder in Cabellas is about 3-4 bucks a can higher that BPS. Cabellas has a much larger supply of components. Bass Pro doesn't have reloading equip.

USED to have decent reloading supply area, nothing great, but decent.

I was there at Christmas and the reloading supplies area was a mess and poorly stocked. Boxes of bullets (yes, bullets, NOT loaded ammuntion) had been opened and very likely they were partial boxes or mixed by ID 10 T customers.

The general appearance of the area made me feel that they were soon going to be out of the reloading supplies business.

The customer service I received when I asked about a 6 inch GP100 made me think they should consider getting out of the firearms selling business also. I went there with the intent of walking out with a new GP100. If I do that it may well be from another shop now.

I have 150 bucks in Bass Pro credit cards (gifts to me) to use and that made a GP100 look pretty dang reasonable to purchase.

Besides I have heard that it is better to GIVE than receive so I could get the good feelings from both modes by giving me a GP100 for Christmas. Seemed like a plan but the cutomer relations at the gun counter soured that plan.

They opened one about 10 miles from here about a year ago. I went there during the opening and they had no reloading supplies. I asked about that and was told that they were not going to be carrying reloading supplies. I haven't been back since. Cabela's and Sheel's are here and they both carry a lot of reloading supplies.

The Orlando BP doesn't have diddly for reloading. Gander Mtn or Scheels has a decent selection.

I do mail order most of my stuff. Looks like I probably will keep it up.

Cabela's will open later this year about 30 miles away. I will have to check it out also.

Visited here last summer. BP was a big letdown after being in Cabela's in Hamburg PA.

The Atlanta store used to carry reloadng stuff. Not a tremendous amount, just basics (single stage RCBS presses and kits, scales, common caliber dies, the single stage MEC presses). However, it was a good place to get primers, powder and shotshell supplies, and the prices were fair.

Then they decided to get out of that category. They jacked the price on primers from $1.79/100 to $2.79/100 (Remington), and the primer selection is disappearing. No more bullets, no more dies, no more brass, no more reloading tools. All of the shotshell stuff is just about gone. I think they still offer some powders.

The service in that store four or five years ago was outstanding. Nowadays, it's the sporting goods equivalent of Walmart. As few associates with as little knowledge as possible.

While their roots were more fishing oriented early on, they had evolved into a special place. Being a child of Missouri, it pains me to see them slide into mediocrity. It was always a treat to drive to the World Headquarters store in SpringfieldMO and gaze with awe... I believe that store still carries more stuff then their satellite stores (have one 10 minutes from the house). This store though large and better then the alternatives in the area for many things, is no longer the "one stop shop" Bass Pro evolved into at one time.

F&M, Midway, Midsouth Shooters Supply, Narchez, Jeff Bartlett, Hi/-Tech, Pat Mcdonald, for most shooting supplies.
Every thing else (primers) I can get at local gun show.
BP supply is ok, as I have NOT shot but a few pounds a year here lately so I have a year or two on hand.

Gents, I have founf the place to buy reloading and casting supplies, Sportsmans Warehouse, if you are fortunate enough to have one nearby, as they do not yet offer on-line ordering. Appearently they have been around quite a while, but we only discovered them recently down here in Tejas.
The prices all beat Midway & Nachez, with no hazmat shipping fees to boot! They do have a website so you can locate the stores, so if you're lucky enough to have one close, check it out.....seems they aren't really heavily into advertising either.

They (Sportsmans Warehouse)have two in Utah so it is only a few hours away and I hope some day they build one here. You are right they have more reload stuff than I have ever seen in a store and it's out where you can do the touchy feely thing. I like that!

For a retailer, Sportsman's Warehouse beats the snot out of Cabela's and and Bass Pro when it comes to loading supplies. The one closest to me even carries the most popular sizes of gaschecks. Can't beat them on their prices for canister grade powders, either.
