I'm having trouble coming up with a good cast boolit load for the above rifle. It has a 14 twist Douglas barrel which I thought would be great for a 200gr boolit but no luck. The best load yet has been a 150gr boolit with 11.5 gr of AA#7 but it is...

I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for but there is a loader advertised in Muzzle Blasts that is 29.95 IIRC. It loads all 6 chambers at the same time for consistency on targets. Bob

This is what madsenshooter means by " The receiver is a Steyr, and I can see the remains of a 7, so an 1897 made receiver." I can see it peeking out behind the last four in 1944. $14 shipped in 1961, man I miss the 60's!

I usually make my powder in the summer and just set them in the sun for a couple days and grind. Never really had any problems with excess moisture. Grain for grain by weight my powder is more energetic than Swiss. Bob

I have the RCBS 350gr mold but was thinking of something lighter and maybe with some reduced diameter front driving bands to increase case capacity although with smokeless that wouldn't be a problem. For some reason I just think this would be a fun...

Hello Bob, I have very little experience in this one, but here goes. Friends that have the 40-50 sharps BN like it Okay, but say it can be a chore to find a load for. Once found, it is a fun round. I shoot the 40-60 a lot! The 40-50 SS is...

You got me there, but I clean all of my brass after shooting it. Even back when I was shooting 20,000 rounds of 45 a year, it went into the tumbler to keep wear and tear on the progressive loader to a minimum. I have shot ML since the early 70s and...

85gr by weight in the 58 Hawken, 95 by volume. In the 40-65 I fill the case and compress to fit overall length with boolit used. That works out to about 52 or 53 gr by weight. Bob

Easy, 2 wet and 2 dry at the range. Wet turpentine patch when I get home, let sit till the next evening. Clean any lead that might be in the barrel and finish with a Balistol patch. Brass goes in the wet tumbler just like my smokeless brass would....

My best accuracy was with 3F, what passed the 20 screen and held on the 30. It easily shoots minute of deer, in fact 2, one with a BPCR and one with a 58 Hawken. Bob

I'm guessing you felt it truly was "gifted", so sent it off to college for four years and it returned sharper/faster and now resides in your powder cabinet as 700X. Being it is now 700X you don't recognize it, mystery solved.

Like Tree of heaven. Making CC from dried wood might be preferable but I have used fresh cut wood with no problems. I sure wouldn't wait for it if I needed to make powder. You can always put some back for later. Bob
