I'll see if I can get a finders fee from TOTW!
Tom over at Accurate Molds has some really great bullet molds for muzzleloaders. I have a dual purpose bullet that I shoot in my Hotrod Hawken 45 cal sidelock and in my 50 cal T/C Encore custom barrel with Harvester Sabots, both with 1:24 twists The 46-320C mold from Accurate I cast of 30:1 alloy using pure lead and pewter. I size the bullet to .453 for both rifles and for the 45 cal Hawken I dip-lube the bullets. Great accuracy and great on-game performance with it's wide metplat.
Why did you start with a 46 cal bullet if you want to size it down to .453?
The bullet design and weight is what I was after. The beauty of working with Accurate Molds is, Tom will work with you and adjust his designs to accommodate your needs. I asked for this mold to drop at .454/.456 using my alloy, and they do, then I run them through a sizing die from forum member Lathesmith (another great guy to work with) to .453, then lube if I shoot them in the Hawken or unlubed if shooting in the inline. Just an idea I was hoping would workout in my favor and it did nicely.
