Lyman M die expander dia ?

I am going to turn myself a few of the expander part to work in a Lee die body

So could someone measure a .....30 cal , 35 cal , 44 cal or 45 cal M Die expander ( if that is the right term ) , I guess just about any size will do

I just need to know about how much over they are making the expander
Compaired to the normal bullet dia

    Thanks

    John

The Lyman 45AP is .450, but that can be a bit small if a person is using soft alloy of 9 BHN or less. Making an expander that is .001 to .002 under your bullet's diameter is what many people look for.

    For a complete chart:

I was thinking a M die expander is slightly over boolit dia to allow the base to drop in
So no boolit base damage is done

So I am thinking a M die expands the case mouth to like .432 for a 44 mag

That's a great and informative link to the M-die tables and narrative. I'm moving toward casting leads for my 30-06's and BR .303's. Very helpful, thanks.

    Talking

johnch, my suggestion for diameters for a M die is take the diameter bullet that you are going to shoot and make the small part for the bullet -.001" to .002" MAX smaller then your bullet size and the large part +.001" to .002" larger. Check out my post on modifying dies for cast bullet shooting under reloading equipment and you will see a picture of the one I mad for my 308 Win.

That is exactly what I was looking for

    Thank you

    johnch:

I didn't exactly clarify in my first post, but the web link should have covered my lack of detail on the 45 pistol expander plug------.450 on the first step and .454 on the second.
