Do the enamel ware steel pots

work for smelting--the dark blue with white speckles kind? Or are they not made of thick enough steel? Got a choice of those that I can sneak out of the kitchen....

I havent tried it, but the construction of those is not something I would trust for smelting. I like a nice thick cast iron dutch oven.

Possibly one of the smaller pots for a very small amount for dipping. NO WAY would I fill up two gallon enamel ware pot with lead for making ingot. THe heat would break down the enamel and void the integrity of the metal in a hurry. As stated a thick dutch oven or a steel dutch oven if you can find one.

I've seen the enamel melted off on an electric range, I wouldn't use them.
