    Wadcutter Mold 50 Caliber

    Morning All,

Here is another mold I recently picked up.

    and

It came in a plain box and is marked D512, but I am unable to find a listing for this mold, anywhere. (Search function, archives, mold lists, stickies, etc) For some reason, I am thinking SAECO but not positive, it may be a tool room copy or prototype.

Anyone here seen one before? I will post photos when I cast some but that won't be until Spring or later.

Thanks for any info you can supply.

Are the blocks steel or aluminum? IIRC, Shiloh made some molds in a similar design for stake-cutting matches with muzzleloaders. Probably drop like a rock over any distance but have LOTS of smack-down up close.

Mines marked Shiloh, and shoots VERY well in my 50-70 T/C handgun, and my 50-90 DR I made up. Mine weighs 390 grs. from WW's. The 2 targets to the left are from the WC at 50 yds. off hand. the wider pair was a quick double, the one thats a sideways figure "8" was slow fire.

Can't you just buy 1/2" lead rod & cut it into chunks?

Yup,that is a"Stake" killer mold. Seen quite a few minne molds like that. Most were just reworked Lyman types but a few were custom made up that way.
They do drop like a rock, but tear out huge hunks of wood on a stake target. Most guys would only use them for that one event and switch to a more accurate round for the other events.
The stake target is a 2x6 or a piece of particle board with a line painted across and it must be cut in half to stop the watch. Many a stake have held togther by only a sliver and cost wasted shots and time.
If shooting, fixing, making and thunking were easy.Everyone would be doing it.

    justifiable, and praiseworthy.

It is an aluminum block mold, or at least light weight and non magnetic.

I thought about the stake cutter molds but was under the impression they were cut with a hollow base for muzzle loaders.

I had the blocks out today to see if the photo was correct. Yes, the venting is on only one block. Not that it matters but it may help someone figure who made it.

Dubber123, thanks for the info and the photo, I intend to use this in my 50-70 trapdoor over a full case of black powder. Hope my single barrel groups as well as your double barrel.

If necessary, I will paper patch to fit my barrel.

The blocks look like my T/C maxi moulds except mine arent W/Cs. They are anodized aluminum and vent only on one side and the numers don't have any coralation to the type. I think they were marked to keep the pairs together. What size do they drop?

Mine is marked "Shiloh Products" on the sprue plate, and 0130 on the blocks under the D512. Mine just squeaks out .513" with WW's.
