Question Those with a Shotmaker What lead so you use?

    Howdy,

Want to get a shotmaker or find someone to run my lead through theirs. So What lead do you use? I want to approximate Cold roll for my old BP Shotguns.

A shotmaker wont run pure lead. It takes wheel weights because of the arsinc. It dont make any difference in a muzzle loader with shot. pure lead shot would deform badly.
Dont know what size you are wanting but would not go less than 5s

    Shotman,

I am using pre 1900 12 gauges, They are BP only and prefer softer shot not necessarily dead soft. All I have been able to get reasonably is magnum shot. I use #9 shot.

This is somthing im looking for a solution to. Weel weights in the eu are now lead free. All I have is pure lead (flashing and pipie) And some solder. Is it possiple to use lead and solder with some scrap bird shot to add arsenic.
    Wheel Weights, clip-on
    1/2% tin, 4% antimony,
    95.25% lead, 1/4% arsenic
Will the absence of antimony be a problem? Or is there some in solder. I completed my shot maker a week or so back but im still finalizing alloy and coolant.
Sorry for hijacking your thread pointless starting another.
    David.

MCS the store shot is fine in a ML shotgun
Woody you will find out the mix that will work after MANY trys. zinc is a nightmare in a shotmaker and it dont take many 3 1oz will mess up 50lbs of good metal
